The Port Strike Could Destroy Trucking - 9/18/2024

I'm going to unload in Thibodaux tomorrow morning. Will see what things look like down there.

 

I used to deliver bulk catalogs to the main post office in Thibodaux

Was my last stop on that run
took bananas from Biloxi to Chicago , then
picked up a truckload of catalogs in Illinois and kicked off a few pallets at six or seven post offices along the way

 

I'm assuming Port of Wilmington is closed ? I'm delviering nearby there tomorrow and usually go to the port for a load.

 

Right and so many places complaining they can't find help but they fail to tell you it's because they're still trying to pay wages from 2020.

 

Demanding a 77% wage increase is a little ridiculous. I understand the fear of automation too, but that’s also unrealistic. As a guy who spent a fair bit of time working in the ports I say F’em. They are the most entitled time wasting pricks I have dealt with.

 

The only thing I potentially see good coming from this is overall America is about to get real close look at how important the supply chain is in this country as they just seem to think things magically appear on their store shelves and truckers are just out there to get in their way on the roads. Maybe it’ll lead to a little more basic respect out there.

 

No love for the Container drivers.

They in trouble.

 

Maybe if it breaks the lowest common denominator those left will finally realize they should make more in order to actually be able to build a cushion if this happens again which will allow them to strike themselves for better wages.

 

How many of the companies hauling containers are unionized? A non-union employee “striking” for higher pay just means they’ll be replaced. Non-union company owners can’t just get together and decide to walk away from their contracts. I mean, they can, I’d hate to see the legal bill associated with that move though.

 

Ppl that live check to check are in trouble. As a company driver or O/O one should have some what if money stashed away. Now for Lease Purchase drivers, well they were in trouble the second they signed the contract!!!
