Recruiter mentioned a drop yard in Fontana when I asked about a nearby terminal.

If it's not important then that's all I need to know, thanks.

Only you can decide if something is a red flag for you. Other drivers have their red flags. I worked for companies that got me home every weekend, until the very end. I chose at the end of my career to work for a company 2,000 miles from home so I could learn the area I wanted to retire to. I learned about the area some and I worked 10 months without going home. I knew that was what I was signing up for. If you are single, have no strong need to be home, just o have time off then not having a drop yard near home isn't necessarily bad for you. If you aren't going to get home very often you may not need to keep paying rent and that would allow you to save a ton of money. You know what you need and want. Other people can only tell you what they would need and you don't know anything about their background. I usually looked for a company I wanted to stay with at least a year. About half way through your first year you will know a lot more about what things make the job too much and what things make the job easy. Your 1st job isn't your job for the rest of time. It's very common to leave only stay with your first job for a year. Don't leave it until you have really found a next company that provides most of the things that make doing this job much better. Newbies now have an idea they can change companies every few months with no consequences. THAT IS NOT TRUE. The less you change jobs and keep your record perfect the more good and great choices you will have in your career.

Western Express is generally a 2nd chance company, not a 1st choice company. If you have a clean driving, criminal, drug, and work history you can likely find a better company than WE. Maybe I'm wrong.

My best coaching would be to have an exit plan.

As a worst case scenario: Telling them you are done at the Oregon Terminal. One way flight PDX to ONT are about $250 for same/next day travel ( Can drop to under $100 with some lead time) + train, bus, and/or uber rides to the airport.

I would look at setting up an "oh crap" debit card with sufficient funds to get home within 48 hrs.

Does May still have slower trucks than Prime?

Also remember horror stories from back in the day of them charging company drivers when the idled the truck too often.
Wonder if that's still going on.

Schneider would be your best bet by far. AVOID W E like the plague!

Is there anything keeping you in L.A.? It's a VERY expensive place to live, and probably also to park a truck anywhere with a 2 hour drive of your domicile. This would be a great chance for you to leave L.A., you know...
