I love gun bans. The usual way they come about is that some craphole wants to reduce crime. Well, lets take the guns away from the criminals! Lets ban them! This is why chicago has banned guns. IIRC, NYC did it too.

How does that make sense to *anyone*? A criminal is someone who commits crimes. Why would they give a tire if it's illegal to have a gun?

All it does is disarms the general public. If *everyone* packed, i think criminals would have to think a little harder before pulling a gun somewhere. Imagine if a criminal tried to rob a gas station and all of a sudden has 6 guns pointed at him?

But that'll never happen. Too many religious people, scared people, and people who just dont need to be around guns (like my dad)

OK everyone were not speaking of anything concealed, we're (i'm) referring to just carrying on the body (in plain site) or have in the truck and letting all enforcement agencies be aware of them being there. There's really no question about trying to hide or keep things from the powers that be, thats just asking for a night's stay with a bologne sandwich:yes2557:. In order to have them believe it's a tool it must be treated as such, and the last time i checked there really is no reason to hide your tools unless your kids keep using and losing:biggrin_25515:

Some states prefer the weapons stay concealed and you can not brandish the weapon even though you have a permit to pack in that state. When dealing with multiple states, one needs to know the laws for each state as well as each federal property they are going to enter. No one binding set of rules for weapons apply to all federal sites, they vary. School zones many times have stricter codes as well. No easy answer.

This thread was about knives! It's heading back to guns and there are several gun want to know threads already going! Lets get back to subject!

As said if you need a weapon then don't go to that area! Look at my picture in my profile. For those who have met me know I'm a 5'8" 150# skinny old guy who is in fear of no man walking this planet! If you pull a knife or gun on me best be ready to use it as I do become the worst nightmare you've ever seen! Now that might have changed the past 2 years from cancer treatments and brain surgery but I'll still take you to the hospital with me and you'll become the laughing-stock of the jail house when the story gets there that you got your arse kicked by a sickly old fart! Then you have to worry about your virtue as Bubba and his boy friends WILL have you for an afterdinner snack!

Even a knife doesn't have to be the size of that broad sword ole Dundee had! If you are going to carry a knife I pray you actually had training on how to use it! A 2" blade can kill someone just as dead as a 14" one! I did like the "drop to the ground and cut the whatever on the back of the ankle" statement from earlier, IF you can get to it with said mugger backing away from you! Last place you want to go is DOWN to the ground! It's hard to kick arse from a prone prosition on the ground or to get out of this detoriating situation while down there also!

If you can't tell when you are getting in to deep you need to start paying more and better attention to you surroundings and NOT put yourself in to a bad situation! As many years as I've been into NYC, Detroit, Boston, Chicago and other areas with a "bad" reputation I've NEVER had a problem! As for Truck stops that's a different story! There are truck drivers that think they are a bad arse that couldn't beat an egg with a whisk! And I've seen more drivers get in trouble in the stops than at the old Hunts Point Markets or darkest Miami street

Your best defence is keep the eyes and head turning, and keep the mouth shut! That mouth can get you hurt more than anything else you could think of!

Only as concealed knives can fall under the permit to pack category in most states.

Good your still among the #####ting livin'! You know what is really scary...

The best sized blade for fighting many times is a shorter one barring heavy clothes. The neck is a prime target, and as recent events have taught us, a box cutter is a versatile tool.

Some muggers use this technique, they hide under a vehicle, then incapacitate their victim as they try to enter their vehicle. Nasty.
Always look under the car as you approach it.
Ha-ha, Bruce Lee did pretty good at ground level, but for most it's not a position of power.

Words of wisdom there... talk with your feet! Most attackers can be avoided if you are alert.
If you can run or drive away, do so.
Weapons are tools of last resort for desperate situations.

The weapon you carry could also become your attackers weapon of choice, one reason some prefer a concealed weapon, and don't openly display them.

Granted its a tool but if you are carrying a tool on your side that is illegal in that state you should beware because an officer might not care what your intentions are, they will just care what the law is.

Hmmmm, maybe your right roll over. Trust me, I do realise just like a gun if they go there then i will have to go there as well and believe me, my goal will not be to leave them standing/crawling/rolling whatever. If it's gonna be them or me, Believe me it will be them.

But like i said maybe your right, maybe i should just carry an 8" screwdriver on my side (thats a tool) or a ballpeen hammer. Naw, stickin with my knife. And it does'nt matter if your not afraid of anyone on the planet or in the state it's the F^%$$# up drug heads and theifs that will probably act cool with you till you get to the back of the truck and their gonna be so high you could probably have a shotgun and they would care less. I think I'll take my chances

Yeah, a LOT of this is going to be officer discretion. And a lot of cops are going to be looking at your mindset. A good example:

Cop, "I see you have a baseball bat beside your seat. Why?"

Now there are two answers to this.

    # 1. "Oh, I guess I forgot to take it out of the car after practice last night."

    # 2. "Oh, that is in case somebody wants to $%^# with me."

Which answer do you think is going to make for probable cause for a complete vehicle search, and possibly a trip to the local lock up?

A knife CAN be explained as a tool, and in most circumstances, will not be questioned any further. Of course a lot is also going to depend on your attitude and demeanor.

(Not to mention the age and years of service of the cop.)

In other words, too #### many liberals looking at the world through rose colored glasses.:biggrin_25510:

I'm wondering, should i declare my $2 pocket knife to customs when i cross international borders? I never have and i've had my truck searched by US customs/border protection (but never canadian border services/customs), and they havent said anything about it...but theyre mostly looking for mexicans in those searches...

And yeah. You know what, I think everyone should have a gun. Everyone. And they should be trained in how to use it properly and effectively.

I think crime would go down. The idiot criminals would get shot quickly. The smarter ones would give it up. Anyone who isnt exactly a criminal but is stupid enough to shoot someone over stupid crap probably would end up in jail quickly. And they should be.

I guess that would depend. Is it a mexican pocket knife?:biggrin_25522: :biggrin_255:
I agree completely with the sentiment here. The only problems are in trying to teach folks to use common sense. As they say, "you can't fix stupid."

And S T U P I D are the folks who want to ban guns. They just don't have a clue.
    I could live with that!:yes2557:
