Working for a company that is located out of state is typical for an OTR job, but May Trucking is decidedly NOT known for flatbed. If you zoom in on their terminal in OR using Google Maps satellite mode, there isn't one single flatbed trailer in their lot. Same with Fontana CA. It sounds more than a little dubious to me, and I would approach with extreme caution.

The same could be said about drivers too you know. Truck drivers aren't exactly any more objective or honest than recruiters are. In trucking you gotta blaze your own trail and chart your experiences. I remember one time sometime asked me, "Do you know how a truck driver is lying?" I didn't know, so he said, "His mouth opens." LOL.
Anyway, OP if you would rather go to May, do that. There are truck stops in Fontana, and Ontario so you'll just have to budget money to pay for those spots when you go home.LilRedRidingHood Thanks this. -
Good point. That's why you talk to multiple drivers. Compare the answers, the experience level of the drivers, length of time at company, etc.

Could talk to multiple drivers, but you'll never know who's truthful. Shoot....this forum has a wealth of information on both companies, and both still get a lot of drivers to sign on there.
Regardless of whether you talk to a driver working for a prospective company beforehand, the new driver will create his own narrative. His experience isn't going to mirror anyone elses. -

I’ll tell W E to put my application on hold as they have no incentives and seem to pay less than May. Schneider job was for team driving which I was advised against.

May told me they pay $.40 per mile and $120 per day while W E said just 40 cents and performance based.

Did you apply with May or through someone else. (recruiting agency?)Since when did May start flatbed?? They do mostly reefer and some dry van. I worked there 5 years but left a few years ago. They have a yard in Fontana that they used to share with US express. Their website says nothing about flatbed but maybe this is something new?? Anyway May is fine as a company to start , but I can't say anything about their flatbed. I go into Southern California a lot, and there are lots of stealthy places to park. You just have to look for them. In fact, there’s some great places to park around Anaheim and Los Angeles, next to all sorts of restaurants and things to do and no one will bother you. But again, you gotta do some research.
Don’t know anything about May trucking OP, but you’re correct, until the industry turns around, aren’t many options for new drivers. But if you get in, do a year or two and keep your record clean, when the economy turns back around in the industry, turns back around you’ll be in very high demand.EDcantSTOP and TX2Day Thank this.
