Hello, brand new truck driver here, just started school in Phoenix-AZ. I definitely do not want the typical gigs that get you home the same day, which is what most people seem to be looking for. I’ve been a digital nomad for the past three years, working for a financial institution remotely during the day, and doing Lyft and Uber after logging off to explore each city I stayed in. I visited around 25 states doing that and decided to learn how to drive trucks because I like big rigs and being on the road. I’m interested in contract work and hauling new vehicles or trucks. I’m also interested in crisis, humanitarian, and combat-type gigs. I don’t want to be stuck working for a company, so I prefer to pick up interesting short-term contracts, whether those are in the U.S. or abroad. I would love to hear from people who are doing something similar or different in the trucking industry or any other 1099 gigs. How did you get started and what type of gigs are you doing?

Without CDL experience you are limited to the fraction of employers that hire newbies. Those companies are not adventurous with exotic jobs like you describe.
Once you have 2 years OTR experience you can be hired at Driver Leasing companies. They are temporary agencies that supply various trucking companies & accounts with CDL drivers. Those companies have more variety and you can dictate your schedule, which may if you get work assignments.FullMetalJacket Thanks this. -
1099 gigs will suck, big-time.
Those are tax mega-headaches.
You will find they are far more hassle than they are worth.
Learn to drive, first -- at a carrier that hires & trains brand new CDL holders.
Later on -- you'll be glad you did....
