I've always wondered the psychology involved. What makes that first guy not park in the line and rather park at an angle or in another fashion.
As for me, I always was taught to park next to someone on your left. That way someone's tail swing can't generally take you out in the night if the open spot is to your right. Seen too many mirrors, hoods, and cabs taken out at night by someone backing in to leave myself open to that.
As for wide open lots. They're my favorite places to park, but it's always a question of do you park on the end, or start out a new section or be the loner in the far corner,e etc.

Trying to understand the behavior of todays truck drivers is not a task for the weak at heart. I have a list;
1. Why do so many guys park on the off ramps of rest areas when there are parking places inside?
2. Why are there always trucks stacked up in the scale lane farthest from the scale house while the one closest is clear?
3. Why do people idle all night in beautiful weather?
I've got more too. -
Why do guys throw pee bottles out their window at a truckstop, when they're 10 feet or less from a trash can?
Why do guys pee in bottles at truckstops, when they're 20 feet or so from a bathroom?
Why is the pee in pee bottles always a weird color? -
Guys throw pee bottles out because they are lazy fat and dont give a crap. I watched one guy while I was doing my pre trip right next to him. He opened his curtains, got out looked at his fifth wheel, got back in opened his door again threw a bag of garbage right at my feet cause I was right next to him then took off. There was a garbage can at the back of his trailer. Now if he would have atleast done a walk around he could have thrown it in the can but nope, just looked at the fifth wheel threw his trash out and left. I just shook my head at him and went on about my business.

1. So there is no chance someone with a reefer, or high idle, will park right next to us.
2. No idea.
3. Idiots OR they went to sleep when it was hot out, and are still sleeping? -
Actually, it shows how unorganized drivers are these days. When freight picks up and there are more trucks on the road, there are going to be a lot of parking problems. Working together isn't a work ethic anymore.

#1, whats so darn bad about that?
#2, when the scalehouse is on the right, they figure the scalemaster wont notice how screwed up there truck is!
#3, im experiencing RIGHT NOW. GREAT night out. And ive been here long enough that anyone who was here when it was hot would have been gone right now. -
Some drivers are lazy. Some drivers enjoy the prospect of "someone else" having to clean up their mess. Others simply trash the truckstop because of high prices, bad service, or lack of available parking. It is a petty way for them to "get even."
Some drivers have no desire to get out of the truck and walk to the restroom (laziness). Other drivers may have diabetes or a weak bladder and cannot wait to get to the restroom.
Fermenting in the sun?
A few possible reasons come to mind; fear of not having any available spots left in the rest area and having to continue down the road to the next stop. To prevent other drivers from parking beside them and having to listen to a loud engine, reefer, or smell exhaust/livestock. Less of a chance of another driving siphoning fuel.
Some drivers believe DOT officers are lazy and will not want to walk to the outer lane to do a logbook check.
Some trucks may have a bad starter. Other reasons include weak batteries, onboard electrical appliances that require a steady consistent current such as; a refrigerator, microwave, television, cpap machine, etc. -
I see there are as many reasons why we see drivers do things as there are stars in the sky.
I for one would like to see a little more of the Golden Rule...applied
Have we all gotten in such a hurry that we stopped thinking about other drivers...do we need to continue to the feed the fire of how we are precieved by most of the motoring public.
I feel that for the most part a percentage of us do try, but it's the other percent that make it hard.johnday Thanks this. -
I was thinking more along the lines of it just plain coming out that color, which could be a health concern such as not drinking enough water.
what about when the scale house is in the middle and they all go to the left lane anyway. Anyhow most dot officers ive met *are* lazy. I've never had one come *out* to my truck to check my logbook. Always made *me* bring it in.....haha.
Now my batteries are weak so i have to idle a lot to even run my laptop. But refrigerators? There's a 12v low draw option. TV? Flat screen/high def doesnt draw much and is way better anyway. CPAP? Ok. That could be valid. I've never owned one.
