I used to ride crotch rockets with this guy from Germany. He had been in the US for a long time and spoke fluent English, not to mention being a very successful businessman and pretty well educated.
When he would get pulled over for speeding, which we all did on those things, he would wave his arms and shake his head and speak in German/broken English. I watched him easily get out of more than one ticket.Feedman, Sirscrapntruckalot, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -
It looks like both lanes wide open until the bitter end. It was a 50 mph no trucks left lane zone before the flood and nobody except me and a few conscientious others ever paid attention to those signs, even though they are painted on the pavement in big letters.Last edited: Nov 12, 2024

a woman died this morning on I-40. she went around the barriers and ended up driving off the end of the pavement and down the embankment. 4 wheeler, not truck driver.

This is what happened to a co-worker, he was a Ducati rider, and he was always wrecking bikes but when he got pulled over, he would revert to his native language and act like he didn't know until he got the wrong cop who spoke the same language and knew he was lying and really gave him crap over it.bryan21384, silverspur, Feedman and 3 others Thank this.

Language has been a problem for eons...
When I was a driver trainer, I spent a lot of time covering very specific stuff about trailers 'N paperwork, etc. and I expected the initial day's material to be understood.
Often when asked 'Do you understand?' ESL drivers would always answer in the affirmative but not know the stuff the next day.
New Jersey offers all testing in something like 28 languages; Cali does the same and I would suspect a lot more states do too.
Remarkably the same drivers do have an advanced college degree in payroll calculation.
My last company had a lot of port owner drivers from the same religious sect from the Asian subcontinent and they did support a number of individuals [often related] as they all wore cellular headsets and I could hear someone translating my questions to their relative right at the dispatch window.
We also used an 'app' to send them container ID and booking numbers and they had to close the file to get paid...
We had a few that were there longer than my eleven years and their language ability was fine though I would expect they did play up the accent at traffic stops.
Any stressful situations like reporting an traffic incident/accident made life difficult for me.bryan21384, silverspur, Sirscrapntruckalot and 2 others Thank this. -
The modern definition of racist is someone winning an argument with a liberal, minority, or foreigner. Yawn. Holding everyone to the same standard.is the opposite. Making excuses for bad behavior based on color or origin is genuine racism. Falsely accusing people of the charge is evil.kwswan, Feedman, Sirscrapntruckalot and 3 others Thank this.
