Correct, there is a rearward pull on the crank when pushing the clutch pedal down, but I’ve never heard of an adjustment itself effecting the bearings….

It sure does whether it’s CAT, Cummins or Detroit. You run one out of free travel long enough they will #### the thrust bearings out.

True, I was overthinking it I guess, hard for me to visualize anyone running a clutch with no free play. But there’s some boneheads out there too….

I've made more than my share of service calls where adjustment was let go so long the clutch started slipping.

Waaayyy past losing free travel. Imagine what the sliding clutches in the tranny looked like, cause you know they had no clutch brake either

Ok so latest update #4 rod completely spun and trashed #3 almost as bad #2 was trying to spin….
#4 on crank has bearing pieces welded to it
#5 main bearing has heavy scratches and wear see photos

What’s my best case scenario to clean crank up especially #4

also what would cause this so it doesn’t happen again?

Next question, would I be better off buying a different used motor?
And if so should I stay with small cam or switch to big cam Cummins?

Myself I'd yank the engine and send the block and crank out to a machine shop. Its really not very expensive. I had a 3406 block get hot tanked, decked, all 6 liner seal bores cut/sleeved, crank and cam polished for about $3500 Canadian.
