I attended truck driving school in July. I started working for a company and was released after a month for a minor incident. I off-tracked about a foot left of center during a sharp left curve and made a scrape about 2 feet long on a cable truck. I was ticketed for improper lane usage. I was fired from my company and since then I have not been able to get ANY jobs in the transportation business. I have spoken with several companies who have student training programs to no avail. The story I am being given is that I need to work for a company for 6 months without having any accidents. With all of the companies saying that and most companies requiring 6 months to 3 years experience, how do I get back in? I have no problem working and if I can get work I will be with that company for a very long time. Any suggestions? Quitting is not an option!

    JustSonny Thanks this.

I'm surprised that you were charged with improper lane usage instead of with reckless operation. Consider yourself lucky.
I'm just tossing out a suggestion, here, and I'm not sure if it's actually doable for you. Have you thought of going back to your school and paying for a "refresher course"? If you could, that would stand as a buffer between your accident (which wasn't "minor") and your chance of getting hired somewhere as a "new driver". Maybe...
Since you sound like you're still searching for options, I thought you could look into this.
Good luck. This IS a tough one. Kudos to you for not giving up, though.

P.S., Have you at least considered the seasonal driving market? Farms and gravel? Possibly a local dump truck operation? Your unique set of circumstances calls for a different than usual route to a solution.
Wishing you, though, all the best...

Would you be willing to share the name of the carrier that let you go for such a minor incident? I'd like to avoid them!

USA hired back a driver, who was unable to find a job anywhere after they (USA) fired him for crossing and damaging a bridge with an eight ton weight limit....

Were you with a trainer during this incident?? Most students are with a trainer 6-8 weeks after school. Or is it a month after that time frame?

There are companies still out there willing to hire you. You just have to find them. You just contacted a very small percentage of them. They will probably send you with a trainer again until he releases you. Like jewels said, there are options of driving a dump truck or rolloff garbage truck. They don't check driving records or DAC's. Many companies don't want more than 2 moving violations in a certain time frame. You had just one which means you are still insurable which is the basis for hire.

any decent company would do that after a month. any that would keep him or hire him now would be the total scumsucker bottomfeeder that HAS TO to have drivers...

    Sad but true.

Also, the reason this happened is because of ###### training. But thats how trucker training is these days, ######.

I would suggest he call the company he worked for and act like he's another company calling to verify his employment. You might be surprised to find out that they dont actually report the accident or the being fired. Or maybe just not the accident. Sometimes they dont. If they dont, just dont tell anyone you apply with about it. I'd suggest local jobs or seasonal jobs, farms, small produce companies, anyone in the yellow pages under "trucking". beer distribution companies, etc etc. Most of these guys are pretty cool.

also if you can do it without them finding out what happened, werner might hire you, you'll have to do 140 hours of training...

You can pretty much count on not getting an OTR job, but you will find a job.

What kind of damage did he do to the bridge anyway? ive crossed a few low weight limit bridges before by accident when i was really new and got lost and never did any damage. But they werent *that* low...
