Hi all,
I got a situation going on right now. I have applied to an OTR company looking to lease on a truck to them and run.
with all that said... I am now being told that my 10 year work history included too much job hopping and too many periods of unemployment. Not discounting any of this. It's all true. I have had 11 jobs in 10 years. Albeit, some were part time driving, some resulted in a layoff, etc..
I am currently employed as a school bus driver (substitute driver) and will keep my employment as a sub with the county indefinitely (as I am told) if I go inactive status, and go to the July in-service yearly.
Now, most of the formalities are over with.... What do I do now?? I haven't bought the truck yet, but I can't leave the dealer hanging on forever.
Is there some recourse (so to speak) by simply contacting someone higher up in the company to plead my case, or am I spent?
Thanks

Sounds as if you've applied to just one OTR company. Are you firm about leasing on your unit to only this company? If not, I'm sure there are other options.
Good luck! -
Well... Kinda... (so to speak) My brother is on there and I had a chance to run his lane with him. He's actually doing very well given the economy.
I'd consider other companies, however I think I'll have the same problem there as well. -
11 jobs in 10 years seems fine to me.

I got a rude awakening when I had my own truck and thought I could just lease it on to anyone. WRONG! They qualify you just like a company driver. Job hopping hurts you now, didn't use to years ago.

Let me add that Jones Motor group out of Spring City, Pa. did lease me on. You can run a lot of Ca. to Tx. if interested.

To be honest 11 jobs in 10 years with gaps in your work history... That makes you sound about has dependable and stable has wet toilet paper regardless of the reasons. Your best bet is a smaller outfit and even then the interviewer is going to have to be VERY impressed with your personality.

One option is to have your brother speak to someone at the company to get you hired on.

I have had somewhat of the same problem in that the companies I drove for cannot be contacted. It seems that when you stop paying your phone bill it doesn't work after awhile.
So many failed companies that I have driven for with no record of it. So when I see some rookie on the side of the road turned over with fire trucks and ambulances surrounding it, I have to conclude this driver was better qualified than I am.....
Companies get what they deserve some times. People do lose their jobs and it is usually management that drive the company into the morgue. -
I've had that many jobs in one year before.I had five during the bush regime do to people going out of business because of fuel prices.I also had my choice of two different ones yesterday and drug tested today for the one I picked. My advice find a company that's not so picky.
