Ran dedicated to NYC my last 2 years driving I slept in Brooklyn Sunday and Monday nights and sometimes Tuesday if no loads which happened 5 times in those 2 years but I'd rather get laid over in NYC than BFE or 95% of the other places in the US! And all the time I'm 102 wide, 75 long with that 53'trl! In those 2 years I got 2 tickets. 1 for idling at $350 and the other was a parking ticket for parking where the cons told me to park for a street unload and as we were unloading the cop was writing the ticket which was $268 which the company sent to the cons and they paid it! But as for getting run over? Busses and trucks don't want to do the paper work and the 4 wheelers aren't as stupid as some make them out to be ...well almost! LOL
I've been doing NYC for as long as I've been driving which in a good month would be 2 times before I got that dedicated. Every time there was that "hadazrous duty pay" and as far as I'm concerned if someone wants to pay me stupid money to cross a bridge I' take their money in a heartbeat! I love those wanna be's that say I don't do NYC because it's more money for me! And it's very seldon you get harrassed by the cops and even DOT if you are pulling a 53x100" trailer or are at 75' unless you're doing something stupid like running over curbs, poles cars, dogs on leashes, drunks, parked under the sign that says NO PARKING trolling for "working girls" or a dozen other things anyone with 1 working brain cell can tell isn't a good idea!
I enjoy NYC and have parking places all over! Even in the Bronx, around Hunts Point or 149th, Manhattan, Brooklyn is the easiest and most fun, Statin Island and then Long Island! There are safe places all over NYC! Those who say different are just going on OLD information or are just sacred! You have just as big a chance of "something" happening to you in BFE as NYC!
You can eat cheaper and better in the city than you can at most truck stops these days! (except for the Gas America exit 115 I70 in IN!) And when you have that MTA card in hand life can be a blast! That subway can be better than a strip club during the afternoon rush hour and Grand Central Station is a hoot! Not to mention Times Square and for those of you who wish to pay their respects to the people who were killed on 9/11 go down to Ground Zero.
If the rent wasn't so stupid I'd move to the Williamsburg area as that is a really interesting section and they are rebuilding it from where it used to be. I've also seen 2 4th of July shows and was invited to a New Years Eve parties several times by friends I've made over the years which were all an experience I'll never forget! I've eaten in restaurants and sat next to a few famous people who had to talk to me because of my "unusual" southern accent! I've eaten in places you've seen in the movies! In 32 years of OTR I've learned that sitting in the truck is boring! The entertainment value of a transit card in some of the big cities is worth it and makes that "waiting on a load" well worth it and guess what? They are tax deductible!
All I can say is NYC is fun but so can other cities so unass that truck and get out and explore! Yes driving and looking at America through the windshield is fun but getting out on foot is better! As the bugshield on an old truck of mine said "Searching for America" And that's what we all are doing! I'm just a little tilted towards the Big Apple!DDlighttruck, Boardhauler, outerspacehillbilly and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's just down the road from me and #### good eating.

Rollover, I agree. I'd love to live there, but rent is stupid. Why would someone pay $1000 a month for a 1 bedroom?
Anyway, i got my $40 NYC pay. But it's not really stupid money since it only came out to bve a fair hourly wage for dealing with BS traffic.
But i'll go. It ain't bad. But i won't go for free. -
Where can I get such a cheap steal?
-
One of the pot holes I referred to earlier!
-
Not pot holes, more like speed bumps to keep you from falling asleep when you drive or keep those "speeders" airbourne.
-
Yeah! That $1000 for a 1 bedroom IS a steal! ROFL! I'm looking at "homes" for sale and rentals and they all start at $1.00 a square foot for the cheap places! It's usually $1000 for a room and the bathroom is the only walled in "room" in the apartment! I think they call those a loft! LOL The "houses" are actually 1/2 of a duplex and start at $150,000! My house here is 3BR 2 Ba and 1550 square feet and my monthly is only 711.00 or 89,000 on the mortgage! Talk about sticker shock! Maybe I'll win the lottery! ROFLMAO! But I do love NYC!
Back in 05 I delivered fire doors twice to the guy that owned an internet company and he had bought the brownstone on the corner of 75th and either 3rd or Lexington I can't remember which but he paid 5 million for the whole building all 5 floors of it and paid to renovate it into a single residence! Oh it was beautiful and the builders did a great job all the way to the plaster molding, nice open elevator and hardwood and tile floors! He paid more on the renovation than for the building! The only thing is I would prefer the Williamsburg area than Manhattan! -
WOW... Did'nt this thread get way off topic...For whatever reason one might think why or why not to log loose leaf.. I for one have always chose loose leaf.
FMCR 395 states;
Any driver of any commercial vehicle must have in their possesion the previous 7 days as well as current change of duty status while on duty.
So whatever the rumor, myth, or reason why loose leaf... FMCR overrides them all..
And PLEASE look up this regulation prior to responding..Thank You -
Yep yep why give D.O.T. more than is required to look at. Granted most D.O.T. officers don't look past 7 days but why take the risk that maybe your math was off on the 8th or 9th day cause if you hand it to them they can look at it.
