Got it. It seems it depends on bank. For example for my amex blue business cash it shows "merchandise & supplies - general retail"
Fuel card VS Business credit card

Depends on how many trucks you run, just me I don’t need a separate fuel card, I just use mud flap whenever I can’t have my local oil delivery guy fill my skid tank

It depends on where and how you run. If you run OTR or have drivers, a cost plus fuel card is the best. If you run regional Midwest, Mudflap can work great using your Amex. If you run a lot of FL, Mudflap is pretty useless. I use a fleetone edge with Schneider cost plus add on and an Amazon Comdata that’s cost plus at TA and .32 off at Loves. My drivers have no problems using these. I previously used TCS but funding it is a pain.

Mudflap now charges 2% for fuel purchases made on credit card, so it is a moot point at this time, any discount you are going to get from a credit card are negated by the charge

Right but if they code on Amex as fuel purchases then the Amex Business Gold card would give it 4x points. Still making it ~2% better than paying cash on the app.

I gave up on mud flap when they started the fee, I have TCS now which is pretty good
