Necro-bump but former coworker just hired on to some smaller op making about .60cpm driving with 35 to load, 25 to drop. Running 5x12's in the winter minimum and 5x12's+8-10 on a Saturday/Sunday in the summer. Beautiful new rigs and trailers all with 18 speeds and full lockers.

Supposedly they hit 110k or they get fired for lack of productivity. Were pretty upfront about that. Most guys average 65hrs/week and up yearly and hit 120k-130k. Top guys will turn on 10s and 34s and get more than 70hrs in a week during July and September. Sounds pretty ruthless tbh for local work with daycabs but it's a data point nonetheless. Option to run out of town and stay in hotels in the winter but the per diem is quite low, I think 40ish dollars a day he tells me.

They have a bonus system as well but it's weird, apparently you can roll off your 40hrs yearly PTO into a 401k if you go the whole year without missing a day and it gets converted into either 60 or maybe 80 hours pretax at your adjusted hourly wage? Faster you work the more you make all around. Seems dangerous in fuel imo.

Dunno, I'd never work another job that wasn't hourly unless it was Linehaul. Lots of linehaul spots are mileage but ya know, linehaul money makes up for it.

Performance/speed based pay seems insane in fuel but it's trucking. None of this #### makes sense.

The same kind of fool who only takes 10/34 off as a local driver.

And only 40 hours of PTO per year? No thanks.

Turning on 10s for local spots seems somewhat normal. Extra board linehaul spots did that. Swing shift too. Whatever they got you run. When I was in LTL the extra board line guys might do 12-14 a night with a 10 for 3-4 days then have 18 hours off and then flip to a 12 hour day run for a week then back to night etc. They did allow for 48hrs between dispatching though once you hit 60-65 hours. Couldn't finish a run at that point usually. An extended 34 if you will.

I begged for that spot. It sure as #### beat knocking off at midnight and being called at 5am after going to sleep at 2am to come in at 10am. 3-4 hours a night if sleep will bury you. At least those linehaul spots let you get 5-6 hours of sleep between runs.

Turning on 10s sucks with any level of commuting. I'd sleep in my car at work if the temperature was under 65 and above about 0-5 degrees. 34s aren't too bad.

To be fair, given the current job market, I'd entertain the offer and give it consideration. Burning down a 70hr clock in a week means you're just existing to work. What difference does it make if you're off 10hrs or 12hrs a day? Unless you have a sub-30 minute commute you'll still probably be sleep deprived and going to bed as soon as you get home. You just might get an extra hour to do chores before going to work so you aren't doing them on your 34.

At 100,000k/yr and up I'd do it. You can knock out 10 years of misery working your life away and be able to step into a normal job with a paid off, albeit cheap; house, car, some savings, and no debt.

I see no point in working a local job if you're going to run, and thus live, like an OTR driver. The point of having a local job is to be able to have a life outside the truck.
