Here I go with another unpopular opinion......I like it that they're giving these foreigners an opportunity to work, and as stated in the article, a much cleaner path to citizenship. I can't understand the disdain towards foreigners trying to come here and work. All of your ancestors did the exact same thing when America was born, in fact, they did it wayyyyy more violently. I thought America was the land of opportunity, or does that only apply to a select few people? I agree with @DUNE-T very much a click bait article that riles up truckers, and I'll add that it exposes their prejudices.
More foreigners on the road

Couple weeks ago we had a load show up. Driver had a very loose grasp on the English lanuage. We weren't expecting a delivery because nobody called ahead to confirm the arrival time. Asked the driver to wait at the yard entrance and that I'd let him know when we're ready. He then proceeds to drive straight into the middle of where my guys were working, trying to open up an area to unload him. Was it a major hazard? No. Did it annoy us? A little bit.
Being able to speak the language of the country you're in is pretty important.broke down plumber, austinmike, The_vett and 9 others Thank this. -

Sorry, the majority gets the bad rep. If you've integrated as much as you say then nobody would know you're a "foreigner" so ot wouldn't really apply to you anyway; would it?
Anyway, unless you're here on a work visa you're speaking out of context.
We're talking specifically about imported labor. This is a huge problem. American citizens/businesses should never have to compete with imported labor. It creates an unfair advantage for us for obvious reasons.Last edited: Dec 14, 2024

This is not true. We covered this in another thread. Many are here driving in work visas. It's even mentioned in the article of current discussion. Look around hard enough and you'll even see ads and employers promoting it on Indeed and Craigslist.broke down plumber, Rideandrepair, JonJon78 and 1 other person Thank this.

Yes, we spoke about it in another thread and you were able to find one guy who immigrated under H2B 20 years ago and I provided a link with fresh government data that only few hundred truck drivers immigrate here based on employment.
It can promoted, but it's just a scam. OTR drivers are not imported nowadays. During our discussion I even asked in the largest Russian speaking Facebook truck drivers group (over 30k people in there I believe) if anyone is here on H2B, there was not a single driver, only one mechanicbroke down plumber, Rideandrepair, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this. -
People are opposed to immigration right now, because they are not doing well financially. When you are struggling yourself, you are not willing to share.
I personally am annoyed as hell to how many people were let in through Mexican border during last few years.
Before I got my visa to come here I had to get certain vaccines, proof of clean criminal record, proof of the place I am going to stay at and whatever else, while people were just let in through the fence without any kind of background checks.
When I arrived in 2004 all the immigrants were trying to help and cared for other immigrants , there were not that many. Now it's an insane amount coming in and people are angry at each other.
For example people were cleaning houses and offices for $20hr during last few years. When the new immigrant wave came in, the prices dropped to $12 per hour. So if you have immigrated here 5 years ago and got to experience higher income, you will be extremely pissed off at someone who just came in last year and took your job for half the pricebroke down plumber, austinmike, Gearjammin' Penguin and 7 others Thank this. -
Why be mad at the immigrants? They can only take what's offered to them. You need to point your anger in the proper place.....the ones that exploit them to save a few bucks. Immigrants only know that whatever they get here is an upgrade from what they had prior. I would be mad at the employers who let me go for cheaper labor, and they've been doing that for years, on top of outsourcing jobs to save money, but propaganda has these folks angry at the wrong folks.Gearjammin' Penguin, Rideandrepair, 86scotty and 1 other person Thank this.

Also, even if you deport every single illegal immigrant, whose lives really change? If they were poor prior to the border being opened, they'll be poor after. They come in and take a lot of unskilled labor jobs, and many of which are being shoved out by technology anyway. I just don't really buy the narrative that they are taking everyone's jobs. They can only take whays offered, and some of the jobs immigrants take, Americans wouldnt be caught dead doing those jobs. I think people are opposed to immigration because of prejudices, diversity, and a fear of what's different.The_vett, Rideandrepair, 86scotty and 2 others Thank this.

How about learning the language that way you could turn around and actually read signage and communicate with the general public and whatnot.. look at all the white Volvos that come out of Chicago and the way they drive 99% of them sit there and tailgate… There are some of the most dangerous drivers on the highway and frankly their license needs to be taken awayTb0n3, Rideandrepair, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this.
