Train derails after striking oversize load

Very tragic. I just read another report stating the train's Engineer and Conductor were killed in the derailment. Another senseless crash because someone wasn't paying attention.

 

That train goes fast through that little town. I guess you have to in West Texas if you are going to make any time.

I’ve crossed those tracks hundreds of times, how that truck driver could not see that approaching train is beyond me, you can see for miles in both directions. What the F good is an escort if this is the result!

 

Tell that to the state. They are the ones that keep routing supers through there. You can see his police escort in the video, it’s extremely unlikely they were off route.

That being said, this is an incredible #### up by multiple people that unfortunately cost two people their life. A driver at that level should be able to see if there is going to be an issue at a hump crossing. It looks like he got stuck almost immediately. Or they decided to raise the trailer/load while trying to cross. That’s unacceptable to me.

 

Last week I had to over inflate my bags to cross a hump crossing. We stopped, aired up, crossed the tracks and stopped about 200’ down the road. I was walking back to air back down and a train was at the crossing before I could even get to the back of my trailer. If we had gotten stuck, we wouldn’t have even had time to start getting unstuck before we would have been hit.

if that was the case with this train, it would have never gotten stopped in time.

 

Im gonna say as someone that's never even turned a key on a rig that if he was routed that way by the state then the state at a minimum , is 50% responsible for the tragedy. Imo.
