That’s the truth. I did it for 7 years. All I had to do was focus on the Truck itself and run. Sometimes driving a bit more if it’s available to offset lower costs. It works if plenty of work is available. Didn’t get rich, but had steady income. As close to turnkey as possible.

    Back at ya R&R!

And yeah, there's a whole lot more to being profitable than one or two buck seventy five loads a week.

It's all simple when you only look from one side, or have no experience in business...

Merry Christmas to everyone, and have a good week or so off.

I want to add a comment...

Even though I might get beat up for who I run with or how much I run my truck for, at least it's public, current knowledge.

Which helps everyone, when it comes time to negotiate how they run their business. Even if you disagree with what I run for, at least you have a baseline you can negotiate from. Capitalism works, and maybe I shouldn't be as transparent, but I think transparency across freight boards is more important to the O/OP industry.

    Merry Christmas Y'all.

I've tried to stay out of this conversation cause I don't want Bert thinking I'm picking on him.

But, Say I go from St Louis to Billings, MT. Let's call it 3800$'s. Where is the cutoff for "cheap" when I'm looking for a backhaul?

Does it matter what I got going out? What if "cheap" is the only game for 300 miles? Set, deadhead home, deadhead out?

Which is the best option, and why?

There's no answer to this question. People think by posting threads like this that things will just magically change. There's a million kinds of trucking. A million kinds of pay. A million ways freight is cheap to some and not to others in some circumstance. It's just blowing off steam, I know, but it's so pointless.

I just paid off my second truck. My definition of 'cheap' freight changed a bit. I might run for a little less than I would've in certain circumstances now just to have some work, depends on every other aspect of the run, and the day, and my mood, etc.

Stop running cheap freight is like stop driving in the middle lane. MIght be a million reasons you're there for a minute and the only one it bothers is the faster truck that creeps up behind you. He doesn't see everything you might see or know why you are there.

Especially with a Crapscadia. If you're going to run old iron actually run old school iron as in pre emission not some computerized POS trying to masquerade as a truck with a million sensor issues

The biggest problem with the trucking industry is that everyone tries painting it with a broad brush.
Tanker operations are far different than refrigerated operations as is all the differences in flatbed operations.

I’ve had people I deliver to ask if I’m home every night, and some I’ve picked from ask if I’m taking it all the way. :biggrin_25523:

No, the LTL business doesn’t quite work that way.
