Current situation. From 265 and old style low air to 300 and new low air. It been much handier had the owner of said truck bought enough frame rail with his cut off that I could just have one joint. But that’s life

I knew a guy that hauled pharmaceuticals for McKesson. He had a Freughtliner Century with a double frame that would collapse and extend depending on if he had to mount the mini gun on the catwalk for defense.
It could go from 265 to 310 wb with air assisted pins receding like tandem pins and had a telescoping driveshaft. The only problem was the driveshaft developed a slight vibration at 150 mph when fully extended, so he kept it at 149 or under.blairandgretchen, 1951 ford, dwells40 and 13 others Thank this. -

Question - just how does a guy have that much room in a shop?blairandgretchen, cke, Feedman and 9 others Thank this.

I will agree that z cuts as well as angled are stronger and provide more surface area of weld. However fitting them to not pull the two rails is tedious. They are also over kill in this situation. I run a straight butt joint. Bevel it and square it. Low Hy uphill root, hot pass and a cap. Grind it flush and tiger paw it to hide any sign. My joint is always center of a cross member with bolts on each side as well as a sleeve to the next cross member on each side of the joint. I know sleeves and rust jacking etc. I won’t say that my way I’d the correct way but it works for me. I also like to leave no sign of tampering, though when I see a truck sleeved it’s a dead giveaway. 300 or better needs double frame anyway in my opinion.
I have no idea how a guy gets by with this kinda room. It’s hard to work in this organization lol.
I have a small contractor hired to move Dads shop to my place. Using my existing pad and adding to. This bunch has good references, offering a turn key deal as in electrical, plumbing (includes air lines) as well as an entry way built off the county road with using the house driveway. What they are not is cheap. There is still gonna be some savings going this route how much depends on a few variables. I have decided that maybe trucking less and taking projects I want to deal with may be a short term solution for me. Really push just the B model stuff tune ups etc. I can’t say for sure but with a small amount of advertising i think I could stay busy. I fully realize that it isn’t a long term solution. I’m not looking long term. I also know working from a home shop is a recipe for disaster. #### right now what ain’t
