    Passport
    Triples/Doubles
    Tankers
(soon getting hazmats) when i turn 21
i turn 21 at the start of January and i already applied to a bunch of jobs and called a bunch these are the few i got offers from i was really looking for a local job couldn't find one

    Swift Flatbed otr 48 cpm
    Milton Flatbed otr 52 cpm
Prime Inc 52 cpm flatbed refer is 50 cpm
(still in the process of talking to sysco been denied a couple time but still trying to work for them kinda my end goal for right now cause they pay 48$ a hour have plenty of overtime and there local)

also im in Houston Texas but i have proof of residency in Washington state around kent area really trying to move back

i think i want to become a owner op in the future but not sure on what i want to do within trucking
so far the plan is to work for sysco cause it seems to me there the highest paying company
and then once i have enough saved and insurance is at good price become a owner op

i really just want to own a single truck and find a dedicated lane
but what experience should i get to get paid the best and find dedicated lanes
flatbed dry van tankers refer etc and what age and amount of exp is a good time to become a owner op

I worked food service about 6 years ago. Did it for 2 years working for Labatt. Only endorsement that matters is doubles. But that job is line haul usually for guys who been there awhile hauling pups. Sysco is the same. Hard work. You will find yourself stressing a lot because of the crazy spots you will have to back into. Sometimes you will have to climb steps with your dolly, park 4 blocks away for an unload of 100 cases, and all other crazy mess that goes along with that type of work. You are young, so if you are in great shape it may fit you. It’s not even close to an OTR job. You are assigned a route and the route is never routine. You will have stops added, back hauls to pick up if you are too quick working, and always help some other drivers out that are too loaded down with case count. It’s a hard job so it pays good. Just don’t see it paying $48 an hour. Don’t even think Mclane or Ben E Kieth pay that. I could be wrong. Just think of all of the little restaurant, gas stations, day cares, schools that have culinary, food trucks, etc. Those will be the main clients and they are always in really tight, retarded spots. Not to mention hospital accounts that have pallets of goods that go 6 different places in one spot. Get your experience and roll on down the road. It’s a rough gig but I miss it at times because it taught me a lot. The stress is way too dang much though. Best of luck.

Are you certain that Sysco is paying $48 per hour. Verify that, make sure they're not saying drivers average $48 per hour. Which can be obtained by a formula of productivity pay divided by the number of hours recorded.

I'm not in Houston but Sysco doesn't pay nearly that much per hour near me.

I recall a thread from some years back. I want to say it was @double yellow who posted it, but I can’t find it now. It basically illustrated every step he had to take in establishing his authority and getting started.

I think that’s what the OP here is looking for.

ETA - Here it is. I didn’t search back far enough.

Food service is a tough job, I did it for like twelve years. You have to unload the whole truck with a two wheeler into the restaurant, it includes going up and down stairs and basically working your butt off all day, I did routes that covered up to 500 miles and had 18-25 stops on them. This was back in the paper log days and wouldn't have been possible on an eld. Even the local routes they had would wear you out over the day. I think it's a young man's game, I couldn't do it anymore and get all my work done for the day and not be completely dead the next day to do it all over again. Most of the guys that get beat down on it end up going to a shuttle position, but I didn't want to do that because they were all night time starts
