Oh yeah, There's a specific name for those types of trucks, Prime used to have them, maybe they still do. One of our drivers sure was talking about them at the terminal a couple of weeks ago. He used to drive for Prime and they had him in one..but hell if he's looking for a bigger truck then the one you posted he won't have to look far.

 

You might have better luck with the OTR flatbed carriers....vs the home-every-weekend fleets.

Simple: comfort. If he's gonna basically be living in there full time, those extra cubic inches are gonna make a big difference...this coming from one who basically did just that three separate times.

To the OP: last I knew (and based on what I still see, it hasn't changed), all of TMC's 579s have the 80" sleeper package. 22" TVs, refrigerators and inverters come standard. What doesn't come standard, though, is an APU—and TMC is beyond militant on idle time (and a bunch of other metrics that determine your monthly percentage pay scale).

So you (OP) may wanna add that to your considerations...some companies that train also include APUs on their trucks. That too will make a big difference in the long run...so long as it's not one of the solar-powered ones.

 

KT seems like a top notch outfit. I’ve had my eye on them for a while if I ever wanted to do just simple step deck work with little to no oversize.

Their sleepers don’t seem like anything special though and they do not run apu’s. They idle as necessary but that is a factor in the monthly bonuses. They do offer drivers hotels when they are reseting in the road. I’m not sure what the stipulations are on that though.

they seem like a pretty old school place. They haul a lot of roll on/roll off loads utilizing the ramps they carry. Lots of work trucks/ service trucks specifically. On of their mail customers is Altec in St. Joesph, mo. They make the arms that go on basket trucks like tree trimmers and electrical contractors use. They haul the finished products out and raw materials back.
