Just to say hello. I have 7yrs. exp in the industry, but went with another career for about 15 years. Kept my CDL to fall back on. I figured I could always go back. Well, I find with no recent driving experience, I may have to take a refresher and basically start over.
I originally started with JB Hunt. I went through their school and after 6 months, I couldn't get 1200 miles out of the dispatcher there. He would not help in any way. So, I found an LTL company driving nights that paid about 600/wk, home ever morning and off weekends. Much better than trying to live on 1200 miles.
Then after about 3-4 months, My uncle asked me to come to work with him for a window company named Redman Building Products. I worked for them for 5-6 years delivering windows. This required unloading the truck after driving. All in all, they treated me very fairly. I had no hassles, and I was paid right. So, this is 7 years experience that doesn't count for today. Whoda thunkit.
I am now considering re-entering the OTR field. I know what it was like. It may have changed some. It will mostly feel weird to be trained by someone with less experience than I. Oh well. I guess I will have to comply for awhile to get going again. I just hope I dont have to put up with a dispatcher that thinks I can live off 1200 miles a week.
I am currently talking to CRST to get my foot back in the door. I have read a lot of the messages on the board. It's a way for me to get my foot back in the door. If they treat me somewhat fairly, I can stay. If they pull the 1200 miles game, I will have to look elsewhere as soon as possible. I have been reading the boards here for week, now. I guess I would be a lurker.
So, if things go well, I will do a refresher and go to work for CRST. If there were other viable options, then perhaps I would go that way. Perhaps I'll be able to post afterwards and keep it updated as to my new experience of an old profession. I know the game, I just hate starting over.

Oh Jeez.
I had always told my wife about snowbunnies in a joking kinda way. Now she knows there are real snowbunnies. Awe shucks, just kidding.
Thanks for the welcome. Trying to get some stuff squared away here today so I can get rolling again. I am both nervous and excited at the same time. On one hand, I don't want to leave my family, and on the other, I know I gotta go. All drivers know this feeling, so nothing new to you guys. Thank you for your support and welcomes, all. I've never driven in NYC and hope I never have to, but I will if it's required. Is there another profession that you love and hate at the same time?
Be safe above all
