Where i work a driver was caught by another driver sitting in his vehicle cab on his 10 drinking a bottle of wine. when the company found out they had him bob tail from the usa back to the yard in Mississauga and told him to park the truck at the shop and don’t take any of your belongings with you . this was a driver who worked for the company for something like 20 years and was on his 10 hour break at a truck stop . I’ve also heard of guys getting ratted out at the duty free and getting fired . company says it’s illegal to have any booze in a commercial vehicle

A lot of drivers I see don't have to be drunk. They're too busy playing with their cell phones as they drive.
upnorthwpg, Garththomas, BigHossVolvo and 1 other person Thank this. -
That wasn't the case 30+ years ago in the states. Some chains that had convenience stores on-site actually refused to sell to anybody with a CDL *(although that backfired pretty quickly). The big chain T/S's for the most part did not sell beer, and did not have bars inside them. Also, while I know that Canada doesn't have such restrictive laws, here in the states you can be cited (and likely fired) for having ANY alcohol outside of a sealed trailer on your truck. Even un-opened! I used to occasionally buy a bottle of liquor at the duty-free shop at the Peace Bridge, claim it at customs, then put it in my trailer (hauling empty racks) and slap a seal on it to get my bottle home.

Same in Canada. technically you would need a BOL for the bottle if you put it in your trailer.

if you think that's bad, you should see australia.NorthEastTrucker Thanks this.

I worked at a place in the shipping department, and we had a couple Syndicate drivers show up impaired enough you could smell them from the ground. Make mention to the boss, and he says take your time loading them, I'll call some people, probably there dispatch and the cops. Shortly after we never saw another syndicate truck. When I left work that truck was sitting along the highway with a cop and a heavy wrecker.
Had a new way driver hand the site foreman a warm bag of poo and ask if he could put it in the garbage for him.
There's some real winners out there.Magoo1968, OldeSkool and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -
Seems to be a trend with Syndicate, yet Walmart can't get enough of them (they recently fired Bison, for New Way/Syndicate, CPX/Lineage/Versacold on the cold side).
That's interesting he actually used a bag lol, usually companies like New Way and Rig just #### under the trailer in the dock or drop yard. -
You would need to want a beer pretty bad to pay what they charge at an enroute.
I havent noticed a difference in the amount of empties left at truck stops either side of the border which is surprising considering its illegal to have any liquor in the truck or trailer other than whats on your manifest in the USNorthEastTrucker Thanks this. -
Those people dont respect any laws in Canada as they know there is no jail time, fines wont get paid..there are just no deterrents..keep on trucking!
hope not dumb twucker and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -
i thought they had to charge the same price as the beer store?
