Carriers that hire ex-felons???

As already recommended in Post #4 submit an application from the website before calling.
Submit the app. then call the next day and say; "I'm checking on my driving job application."

The felony, especially being 7 years old is not the issue.The problem lies with insurance requirements. There are only 3 insurance underwriters in the USA under various names and agents. The reguired minimum is 2 years otr experience without 1 or more moving violations. Exception to large carriers that are self insured. Another exception is policy's underwriting by Progressive, but is cost prohibitive. I was quoted $5000 down and $1000 per month to hire a driver with only 1 yr exp. 2 tickets. So you'll need to put in your time like most of others and run for that large carrier for crap pay for 2 years after which you can go elsewhere for better pay. The other issue is of logistics. Thousands of drivers run over the road for decades and are in constant seek of that local job to be with family. Most will take a pay cut to come off the road if a local job is available. So less than 2 yrs limited options. Good luck to you.

 

Now look at what you've done, , Chinatown is our resident job recruiter/MD analyst and he deals with creditable choices, and not sure every one he posts are hiring felons, I say, go in and talk to the person in charge of HR. It could be a short trip, or you may be driving that very afternoon. It shows you are determined, and above all, don't say a word about the crime. You can fudge the experience part, a little. Let them find that out, you may just sneak in. Happened to me. Good luck.

 

If asked why you quit, tell a potential future employer that was a seasonal job. If asked on an application, put the same.

 

If a local job is what you want do whatever you got to do to get it. Getting what you desire in trucking is not easy at all, and in most cases, it's a long hard road. Post number 17 points out every reality. If Western will hire you, take it and get experience. In today's world in trucking, experience is the most valuable thing to have. That's the only way you'll be afforded a lot of opportunities in trucking.
