I guess you didn’t see i posted the same story earlier in the day . I’m surprised they would sell the whole contract to one company. What happens if service goes to crap and i think a lot of walmart drivers will not sign on with Canada cartage because there pay sucks compared to walmart. i believe walmart pays $28 a hr and i’ve heard almost guaranteed 12 hr shifts . maybe they plan is to use driver agencies to fill the need . All i can say is good luck to walmart . i’ve heard loblaws is not happy with canada cartage and hiring their own drivers again
Just thinking about it now that a walmart warehouse in Mississauga has decided to join the union . i wonder if a reason for getting rid of their private fleet is because they were afraid that the drivers would also signLast edited: Jan 30, 2025

Sorry I didn’t see it. New threads usually are in bold but I didn’t notice anything.

This is wild to me, after the whole Bison/Syndicate/New Way Trucking/Versacold CPX fiasco Walmart went through (I was at Bison at the time) which led to them bringing Walmart fleet up here to Canada in the first place. It seems like they're going back to that model, with a way worse option!
You're correct on Loblaws, they went 4 tracks, Laidlaw, IHaul, Rig Logistics, Syndicate, etc etc etc to get away from having "Loblaws/Westfair Foods" private fleet. Now they've dumped all those carriers, and are back to Loblaws Fleet lol.
They all ####ing suck tho, Walmart fleet here in Alberta was beyond a disaster, Loblaws fleet is already a disaster, and all the carriers mentioned above; everyone knows they're disasters.'88K100 Thanks this. -
I don’t know much about Driving for walmart , it was mostly new Canadians driving for them . I did hear they paid alright and new equipment. Canada cartage will be older beat up truck’s because they mostly hire from driver agencies with drivers who don’t have much experience . I would put money on it that canada cartage will not have as good pay as what walmart was paying.
Like I said with walmart having a warehouse in Mississauga voting for a union I wonder if that had any impact on this decision. I just read Amazon is closing a whole bunch of warehousing in Quebec because they voted for the union . Something like 2000 people out of a job and Amazon will now use sub contractorsCanadianhauler21 and BigHossVolvo Thank this. -
Last ad I saw for walmart drivers in Edmonton started at $24.xx that was a year ago or so, decent equipment though.
Canada Cartage is on an expansion binge it seems, they bought CPX recently, now Walmart Fleet... -
Honestly Lowlaws is the worst and their equipment sucks bad regarding their trailers with a good amount of reefers beating to crap. I did a short stent with them back in December and the attitude at the Cambridge, ON. Distribution facility is beyond deployably egregious. Dispatch there treats all trucks like garbage and speak in a extremely disrespectful manor. They had Owner Operator ads out for months & always at the Spring & Falls Truck Expos yet 0.25% if those care to apply and work there. Probably because they know how scheming Lowlaws is with pay settlements that gyps drivers ans O/O's in the long run.. As for Walmart contracting Canada Post They're trying save on the shipping end by contracting the freight to Canada Cartage to move for a cheaper rate. I also assume because of Walmart Canada announces landmark $6.5 billion investment in its store and supply chain footprint, announcing dozens of new stores to be built across Canada over the next five years & newest distribution centre in Vaughan as they try and stay competitve against Amazon. Canada Cartage has been around even before I entered this industry in the 1990's and alway seem to get decent contracts later on messing them up.Last edited: Jan 31, 2025

I know all about the loblaws cambridge location and the disrespect . i pulled their trailers and delivered all over the place to their stores . From windsor to Quebec , when i worked for schneider national who had a 3 year contract out of Ajax from 2008-2011 .
We had drivers who went to cambridge and was told point blank by the loblaws shunt drivers don’t bother asking for any help from us because you will not get any . They were pissed off because loblaws closed the warehouse in Mississauga to get rid of the union and give schneider and canada cartage the delivery contracts out of the new ajax warehouse which is also run buy outside companies. I too remember the loblaws dispatch being total ### holes with a attitude all the times when we did switches thereBigHossVolvo and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
One of my O/Os who packed it in and went company went to Walmart, was $32 an hour he told me. He seems to enjoy it, no paperwork, pin to pin. Seen quite a few positive things about the fleet posted online - if you dont mind living in Wally's World.hotrod1653, BigHossVolvo and Canadianhauler21 Thank this.

Makes sense now. I did my lcv intructor renewal last year with a safety guy from Canada cartage who was doing his first instructor course. Said they were lining up something big.
BigHossVolvo and Canadianhauler21 Thank this.
