That's exactly how it's done. It can be as simple as an LLC as well. The only time it won't transfer is if the carrier was a sole prop. I was set up as a SP initially. Then, when I began to think about the possibility of leaving the industry I started an LLC and updated that with the FMCSA. A year later I sold that LLC without assets.

So your silence how to transfer a dot number can only mean you can’t.It doesn’t matter if it’s a corporation and you buy the corporation it has still changed ownership.but I’m sure your so called transportation lawyer has explained that to you.So when the corporation changed ownership you then have to apply for a new dot number
