By myself or team driving?

Prime worked out well for me, I did a year with them as a starter company and they are indeed both female and pet friendly. There are several female Prime drivers who have active youtube channels.

If you have no experience and will have a training program to complete, you probably won’t be able to take an animal along during that time. Once you have completed that program and are on your own, you should be able to take your dog with you.

 

I strongly urge you to reconsider doing team driving, especially right out of the gate and you’re just starting out. Unless you’re a real heavy sleeper and you can sleep through anything. Get out there on the road by yourself get a year or two of experience in and decide which way you want to go. It’s a good way to clear your head and to get the cobwebs cleaned out.

 

CAUTION: Trucking is a job that is best suited for people who are loners.

If you require/need:

• constant companionship
• constant feedback
• constant affirmation
• a "sounding board" that is always there

....or similar -- it's likely that you will be miserable in the world of trucking.

Trucking is mostly for:

• loners
• people who like to work alone
• independent problem-solvers
• people who can go for days or weeks without seeing or talking to anyone they know (did I say loners?)
• gearheads (or gearhead "wannabes")
• people with a zest for adventure -- they welcome the unpredictable & the unknown
• people who can leave their cell phone alone -- for hours at a time
• people who are extremely patient (like with very slow traffic)
• people with a very strong work ethic (giving up/quitting/doing something "half-way"....is simply unthinkable)

That list gives you a good idea of who is truly a good "fit" in the trucking world.

First, welcome aboard, you'll find experience from all facets of trucking, you came to the right place. 2nd, I've gotten in trouble before when suggesting team driving may be a poor choice, like Lenny and others suggest, and I still stand by that. No need to drag someone else into your life that may not know any more than you. You'll find everything you'll need to know about trucking right here and don't be shy, ask away. Not much we haven't heard, no matter how embarrassing it may seem. See, the thing with teams, is a whole new set of issues can arise, usually not a problem by yourself. It can work, but mostly in a partner setting, 2 strangers not the best. My advice is, think about what exactly you want to do in trucking, local, regional, or OTR. Tanker, van, reefer, dump, flatbed and go from there. Chinatown means well, but could confuse you even more with his 57 possibilities. Don't worry about the dog, companies have changed their rules on that, as many good drivers have pets now. Good luck, and keep us posted, eh?
