Well, not exactly. But (assuming AD9) if you're leaking air from the purge valve, and you remove the small 1/4" air line from the dryer, and no air is coming out of the line, then the dryer/purge valve is your problem.
They're cheaper than a road call, replace the assemblyOxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Is replacing the dryer filter an option? Or just a temporary fix
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Yes, you can just replace just the purge valve and filter if you want. It'll save you maybe 150$ over the assembly.
Just replacing the filter will not fix the purge valve leak.Oxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
So remove the line from the dryer to the first tank? Or line to the dryer? Because I had air in those tanks spitting milky water out of the small tank oily water from the large tank all on passenger side. Tanks on the driver side had air and no water at allRideandrepair Thanks this.

On most 99's, at the dryer, you'll have 1 big line in, one big line out, and a small signal line from the governor.
The small signal line is what tells the purge valve to purge.
Remove that small line with the engine running, if there is no air there, and the purge valve is leaking, the dryer/purge valve is your issue.
You don't need to check anything elseOxbow, hope not dumb twucker and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Ok I fired the truck up and removed the small line from the governor at the dryer. Air built up to almost 120 but didn't reach it but held at that psi. No air out of the dryer purge valve but air was coming out of that small line?Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Would that indicate a different problem?
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Ok so I left the truck running while I was messing with it. As the air built it started coming out of that little line so I pushed the fitting back on and the purge valve popped. It pushed a little air out but stopped after a few seconds it was building air decently and purging.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Air should only come out of that line when the governor reaches cut out PSI, so roughly 120 PSI.Oxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this.
