So little update. So far so good. Had an airline fitting break and friction weld itself to the PTO. Also lost a couple tires to nails. Otherwise all is well. Got a firm average on my MPG as well 5mpg on the dot. Not great compared to the 6.8-7.5 of the frog. But im actully able to get out of my own way so ive been averageing an extra load a week so its a wash so far cost wise.
I also ended up selling the bullfrog for scrap. Got an alright offer for it and as much as i wanted to fix it....frankly it had a shot engine. The axles had gods know how many miles on them. The frame was never right after it got bent and the truck always fought with me anyway. The 5th wheel was about done, and it needed a rebuild overall on the electrical, the cab and a bunch of other ####. Doing the math and priceing out parts. It would have ended up costing more then a new 579 to put back into service. And it just wasnt worth the money.
Coulda parted it out for more likely. But with how little time i have free anyway it wasnt worth the extra 5 or 6k i woulda gotten. If i coulda gotten it. Feel bad about it, but sadly the smart choice is get the cash and reinvest it into my new rig.broke down plumber, Tug Toy, 77fib77 and 4 others Thank this. -
Note to self. New truck does NOT like engine washes. Decided to wash the drool off the block when i got a truckwash at the beacon and that was a mistake. Check engine and stop engine galore. Let it sit for an hour to dry and it let me idle up with only a warn engine. So got the engine fan running at high idle to get air flowing over said engine and to get the block hot to help dry and going to keep an eye on it for a while.
Would just let it sit overnight but its supposed to get below freezeing tonight and i dont want to risk freezeing water breaking plugs. Going to have the codes pulled anyway and written down so i can have the dealer check the plugs for corroson and put new seals on for anything that threw a code.broke down plumber, Tug Toy and Siinman Thank this. -

Lol bit late to the party there mate. that ship sailed, sunk, was a target for depth charge practice, raised, set on fire, and blown up with a nuke quite a while ago.broke down plumber, Tug Toy, Midwest Trucker and 5 others Thank this.

I had similar issues with my old truck. Decided I would never let anyone else wash the engine on any other truck I own. Now I just take to the local truck wash and do it myself. Never have a problem when I do it. They get to happy with pressure and dont give a #### about the electronic area. Just blast away at full pressure. Hope it dries out and goes away.broke down plumber Thanks this.

That's funny. I have a 2023 860 and it's got 250000 miles and never been in the shop for anything other than PM's. Has been by far the most reliable truck I've ever driven. Most driver friendly and comfortable truck I've ever driven, as well.broke down plumber and Siinman Thank this.

I have had pretty much the same experience with my 23 VNL 860 as well and it has over 300K on it now. Been a great truck. Just curious does yours have the TC in it? Mine does not fyi. D13 500HP with Ishift and 2.79 Rars seems to be a great fit for none TC set up. Average over 8 MPG's life time.broke down plumber Thanks this.

TC? traction control?broke down plumber Thanks this.

TC=Turbo Compounding. Has a shaft from the turbo, to a set of gears, to the crankshaft, much like a Detroit Diesel.broke down plumber and Siinman Thank this.
