Pro: with some exceptions -- fuel rigs can go places that other big rigs simply can't.
One afternoon -- as I left a main hwy & entered a well-to-do neighborhood, a local cop followed me (presumably....to see what/where I was doing/going). When the cop saw/realized I was about to feed the neighborhood's local Circle K -- the squad car disappeared.
Con: the pay for fuel haulers isn't really in-line for the level of risk & responsibility that's there -- particularly in more urban areas.
Given the current value of the dollar (or maybe I should say, the lack thereof) -- fuel hauling should easily pay six figures....but in most cases...it doesn't.

Is there a weight limit on drivers? A friend recently started hauling fuel and he's trying to convince me to come out of retirement. I looked at the ad for drivers and it said the ladder accommodates 450 lbs and the top of the trailer 200 lbs. I weigh about 225, does that mean I'm out?

Nearly all fuel is bottom loaded these days so no real need to be climbing on top of a trailer. Now chemical/foodgrade trailers are a different story, lots of up and down.omaharj Thanks this.

So I didn't get a call this week about that job. Oh well life goes on. I could try to apply to the other fuel haulers nearby that I know of. Dead River Company and Irving Oil to name a couple

I have never heard anything like this, 450lbs on the ladder sounds correct by intuition, but only 200lbs across the top sounds way low. I checked the manual for the trailers we have and there is no mention of a weight limit.
You should do it, get on with whoever you can even if they have a bad reputation or pay structure, once you are in the industry and carded up it's easy to move around. -
Alpha Transport is now making applicants take a culture index survey. Goodluck figuring out the right answers. They say there are no wrong answers, but I couldn’t find the right ones apparently.
plant Thanks this. -
Very true. You hear about the good job openings while you're waiting to load. The best companies never have to advertise for drivers and the seats get filled fast.RockinChair, Rugerfan and plant Thank this.

When companies get too big they just completely lose touch with their people. An online personality test serving as a substitute for an in-person meeting is just sad.Rugerfan Thanks this.

Did 1 informal phone interview that went well with the branch manager, 1 zoom interview with a recruiter that I assume went well because he was talking about a drive test, and giving notice when we hung up. Carded at 8 racks in 3 cities, no cross dumps, no accidents, or tickets. Yet because a index survey says so, I’m not a good candidate

You didn't want that job anyway. A Culture index survey means it's some kind of funny farm. I wish you all the best of fortunes. You will be working for normal people soon enough, you don't need to be part of some social engineering experiment.
