Probably would have went with a z cut but splitting the hanger like that was a good move too

Falling way behind. But not in trouble quite yet. Headed out in the morning with a load. Picked up 8 Alcoa’s today. Should have it bolted back together in another 1/2 day. IMG_1726.jpeg IMG_1727.jpeg IMG_1729.jpeg

No z cut for me. Always strait at a crossmember. Haven’t failed me yet. The rest of the original frame is so rusty and thin in spots it will fail somewhere else way, way, way before this “fix”.

Do you do a z cut? Seems like it would make it harder to get everything lined up while rolling half a 2 axle frame piece back n forth?

There from Vanderbilt Haag’s. Same place I got the cut off. There cheap like $100 each? IMG_1698.jpeg Picked up some steel on the way home yesterday to make blind mount brackets for them.

That's pretty darn clever how you used a small piece of the frame rail liner to make sure you got everything lined up perfectly. I figure I'm gonna have to go down this road with my old 95 W9 here before too long and my biggest worry is getting things perfectly lined up so there's no long term issues with it.

I think the straight cut is the way to go as long as you have a nice liner at least 2 feet in both directions. A guy who used to post on here Ezrider, and still posts on youtube posted how he did his cut off using a straight cut. He works off-road doing 7-8 axle heavy haul side dump and hopper bottom work up in North Dakota. He's ran it for years with that straight cut and liner and had no issues with it whatsoever.

Yeah, Ezra (ezrider) helped talk me through my first one with 6’ liners. 6’ liners is way overkill. That was 400k plus miles ago. Put a 60k mile disk brake 3.08 gear on my international about 4 years ago. Never even thought about the reliability of it. IMG_4902.jpeg IMG_4666.jpeg

If you got lots of time, check out J.C. Smith Projects on YouTube. He did an old 349 Pete and he left nothing to chance on that job. It was very informative and I ended watching all 5 or 6 segments.
