24yo no-lifer, need company / newbie advice.

High turnover rate isn't what it seems. Many drivers quit their first job, then hire on with another trucking company.

 

Where is that?

 

tech schools you can get grants for. I did and only paid a couple hundred bucks for school fees instead of 4k for training.

 

well considering its how 90 percent of drivers get jobs...

 

dont know what's up your ### but I went throug a tech school 13 years ago with a grant. It was a 10 week program no 3 week mill and I actually logged 1000 miles behind the wheel during school. Got hired a week after I graduated and 13 years later I'm still out here. I've known drivers to do the company training then quit the company because the terms sucked. It is what it is and you're just talking stupid nonsense.

 

I'm not sure if you've ever read the contract students sign when they go through company training, but it does NOT guarantee them a job afterwards. I almost went through a company for my CDL until I got there and saw what I'd be agreeing to. One of the provisions explicitly said that an actual job offer wouldn't be made until training was complete, and that students were still responsible for paying back all costs even if they weren't eventually hired.

CDL training doesn't count as experience, regardless of who provides it. A student graduating from a private or tech school is at the exact same level as one who went through company training. I eventually went through a private school, using the WIOA to pay for it, and guess who sent recruiters to my class...

13 years ago and 10 weeks? Guess it makes sense its down to 3 weeks.

When I went to the Vo Tech (in 1984), it was 9 months. Army was paying me to go to school, so I stayed the whole 9 months (had my CDL in 3 weeks). Most companies wouldnt take anyone under 2 years experience back then...

 

There's plenty of trucking jobs, but have to be willing to take a less desirable one, maybe, to get started.
Sometimes, even a Class-B job is ok to keep the CDL busy. Some companies that want Class-A drivers will give a little refresher to a driver that's been driving a Class-B truck to get a driver in the seat.
We've seen a lot of that on this forum and it works.

I’m not sure if they’re still opened. Looking at Maps, their yard is strangely empty compared to what it was. The Terminal Manager Ed is a good dude, and Tasha is a great dispatcher.
The trucks are all broken down all the time but they get them fixed quickly.
Local routes (home daily) and great pay—best I’ve had trucking

The only reason I’m not with them anymore is because I got a 25MPH ticket in their truck—no way they’ll let me come back
