Dump truck to transfer truck

Yes. Class B only goes up to like 54,000 lbs. pretty sure for that combination empty even you’d have to be Class A. Should know that before going any further.

 

You need a class A. The trailer's gvwr is greater than 10,001 pounds. A class B straight truck can pull a trailer with a gvwr less than 10,001 pounds.

Transfer trucks are tricky to operate, so you can't just put anybody in the driver's seat. There's a lot more moving parts to break and maintain. The 2 main advantages of the transfer combo is that the dump truck can unload in tight spaces, so you're able to get 2 loads hauled instead of one and you can unload in a tight space. The other advantage is that you can haul 2 different types of ag.

 

I went from a transfer to a Super 10 wheel when California made me retire my transfer. I could see that Super 10s were going to be the up-and-coming way to go, and transfers were becoming obsolete. The transfer carries 24.5 tons and the Super 10 only carries 16 tons, but the customers seem to like the bigger truck without the trailer.
