If you’re a new driver, why does it matter if it’s manual trans or automatic trans.
I would be worrying about getting my foot in the door of being a truck driver and then you can worry about what kind of truck you want to drive and auto/man transmissions once you got some time in!
Trucking companies with 13-18 speed manual transmission trucks

18, 13, 10 basically shift the same, from driver's viewpoint, unless you are hauling very heavy or climbing steep grades and need to split more than the highest lowest 1 or 2 gears.
Emerald Nutmeg Thanks this. -
Maybe AC motor express in west Springfield might have a couple ten speeds left
JP noonan is right around the corner from them
could try sc Ballard as well, don’t know what their requirements are though
where exactly in CT are you?Emerald Nutmeg Thanks this. -

Why a 13-speed or an 18-speed? With the more powerful engines of today, a 10-speed is really all you need. "Back in the day", if you ran the Rockies with a 270hp "Big cam" Cummins, you NEEDED 18 speeds, if not a Spicer 6x4 twin-stick. When I started driving almost 40 years ago, those particular transmissions were getting rare and were mostly used by guys who ran really heavy, had old trucks, or just liked wearing their shoulder sockets out with all those extra shift throws. Unless you are hauling overweight or logging, NOBODY needs an 18-speed anywhere in New England.
Thirteen speeds may be a bit more common, but just a little. Even so, the heyday of the Eaton-Fuller 13-speed was about 30 years ago. Any company that has a LOT of either has a lot of "old junk".lual Thanks this. -
But imho opinion after 51 years.,, the last 30
Odd w/an 18
It’s absolutely the most versatile gearbox made today… the possibilities are endless and a lot left strain n your back shoulders than a 10.,. Although I guess you could strain your thumb -
When you send that resume out, make sure you put on there that you will only drive an 18 speed. Also, nothing under 600 HP. And you smoke cigars and don't wear shoes. Let them know who's boss, get this party started right off the bat or they will walk all over you. And make sure they provide a 390 Channel CB.

Used to work with a guy that insisted he didn’t hurt his arm as bad shifting a 10 speed as he did a 13 speed.
The way I drive, I move my arm less with a 13-18 than a 10, but so be it. 13 is my personal favorite, followed by 18.
