    Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has any experience in heavy tow from Georgia back up to Canada (Toronto).

My truck has a head gasket issue and it’s burning coolant like no tomorrow. I just want to make it back home by adding coolant / water every 60-80 miles but I have to be prepared for the worst….

Tried to call a few tow shops in Valdosta, GA but they don’t leave state….

You can probably get a hotel and the head gasket done for less than the cost of that tow… unless you are low enough to hitch a ride on a step deck/lowbed

Yep. Four Star Freightliner would be your best bet in Valdosta.

Had a truck towed an hour up the highway and cost me $1200. That was 10 years ago, probably be cheaper to have it fixed there. Either that or lowbed it home.

Depending on the truck, 1200 miles to Toronto is going to be $9000 to $11,000, this means a company will move it without you on board, and you have to find your way home, which means another $400 to $600 for a flight.

It’s a 2017 Peterbilt 579 with 825,000 miles. I don’t even know if it’s worth towing it back. I might just scrap it here in Georgia.

Is this an easy process or am I going to be in another situation?

    thanks

find the local dealer and go talk numbers, they will pretty much blow you to sell a truck right now

The last tow I had from my accident was $550, it was 0.7 miles from where I was hit to the yard, last one my uncle had done on like 70 miles was $500 back in 2020, tractor only though.

    Fix it there.

    Fly home.

You have no idea how long the job will take.

Last years rental took a week for a new head. Dealer owns the truck.

Last month someone else older truck in a local shop took 5 weeks.
