Hub removal on the trailer to change s-cam.

Might be enough for made in China s-cams. LOL

 

Installed all new S cams, bushings, slack adjusters, drums, brakes on my flat bed couple years ago. Had to pull all 4 hubs, no way around it.

Remember to turn the inner seal around backwards….

 

Of all the stuff I have, I didn’t have one single thing that fit the cam shaft properly. Next time I’m buying a piece of pipe and make something….

 

What I did 35-40 years ago. Used to make tools, not just go buy them. LOL
Split it in half and use a hose clamp.
Hammer the bushing out the back, slide the new one over the cam then through the spider and tap in with the cam. No need to pull the hub.

 

I enjoy figuring it out myself and making tools to do the job as well. My lathe has been down a few years now and I sure miss it at times.

When I put the S cams in my trailer I opted to wait till late evening since it was hot as blue blazes during the day, when I realized I could possibly get around pulling the hubs it was late in the night and everything was closed. @blairandgretchen as well as @wore out have both been to my place and I’m sure they can tell ya I have a lot of stuff lol, especially according to my wife . But still don’t have everything unfortunately…

 

Just a FYI I rarely use a socket to remove the lock nuts in the hubs(mostly because they are all different) hammer and chisel is what i use..

 

I’m sure you may already know, but, keep in mind the S cams are side specific….
