Guys, if you want to endlessly moralize about how you are a perfect person and how I am not perfect, that's perfectly fine; it is your First Amendment right.

I had an examiner who did no more than the book required. He was great but retired.

Unfortunately I ended up with a guy who endlessly asked me health questions and tried to go "above and beyond". As a result I ended up with only three months certificate.

That's now acceptable to me, I just want my CDL without extra zealousness on their part.

Its less moralizeing and being "perfect" as not wanting to see storys like this.

Man dead after possible heart attack causes tractor-trailer crash on I-295 in Henrico | WRIC ABC 8News

    Or this

Man who caused fatal crash in Clay had health problems; autopsy inconclusive.

    Or even this

Body found inside semi truck parked in Walmart parking lot

A LOT and i mean a LOT of drivers who get grey area doctors for grey area health issues cause major issues. And a lot who come here asking that kinda question are trying to sidestep the exams. So for us part of it is concern for not wanting to see you dead in a truck stop of health issues. Part is not wanting you to kill yourself or someone else while driving and part of it is us not wanting a potential cowboy putting more regs on all of us.

If you cant find a doctor who will pass you because he sees several concerning things, or even if he is just being a dick. Then just find another locally. Not all docs are good and some have an agenda or are trying to milk new patients. However, if multiple docs are being concerned and refuseing to give you a 1 year/2 year then perhaps there is an issue.

If us being suspicious and concerned makes us in a nut shell sanctimonious in your eyes.....well its not helping your case by going instantly defensive and frankly....sorry not sorry for being skeptical.

What questions are you concerned about them asking? If you’re volunteering information on what is required then that’s on you…

    Can you?

    - present with your BP below 130

-pass that little dipstick test they do with your urine

    Are you height/weight proportionate?

    What's the problem?

Knew he had heart issues, but continued to drive, and look what happened:

first amendment has nothing to do with it, our safety, not yours but OURS matters. You can find anyone to do the examine who will pass you no matter if you are a walking heart atack but when you have a medical event that causes you to lose control of the truck and kill someone, that's important to us.
The book means that the examiner needs to make sure you are fit to drive, he sounds like he was not doing his job if you think he was just checking boxes.
That's fine, I'm all for that, he has his job and you have yours. but I also think if anyone hide something serious from an examiner and are caught, they lose your CDL for life. There is a reason for a 3 month, so play the game, get the info he needs or other doctors involved and get it over with.
Glad you didn't go to the person who I had my last physical with, it was a three-hour exam, and she even called my doctor - all within the legal framework of the DOT regs.

I've never had a med card exam go beyond the bare minimum, hence my response of "chose any occ health walk in clinic". Nurse does 90%, NP comes in for 5 minutes, and I'm done.

I'm sure there's a 1099 carrier in your area that can point you in the right direction.
