Hill bros. Trucking used to pull pups in and out of Cgt (Chicago Hts) and Rki (Rock Island Il) going out west but that’s been a few years ago. I don’t think they do it anymore?

You know I think vaguely remember that. I don’t remember the pups but I remember Hill Bros. I used to run out of the heights. Would see all the PT vans lined up when I got back in the morning. Would p*ss me off.Speedy356 Thanks this.

Freight is still all company drivers. They used to hire power only contractors in certain lanes for certain circumstances, but they stopped that by the end of 2022. It’s possible they’ve started doing it again, but if so it’s still only in limited numbers.
Used to see Hill Bros and Inland Xpress all the time in KCY until they cut them out in 2022. There were also a few O/Os running sets out of Denver to RKI.
Fun fact, Inland Xpress used to do business as Salt Lake Trucking Group, a FedEx Ground contractor, but they lost their contracts in that huge bribery scandal in SLC a few years ago. They were still running the FedEx Ground DOT number on their trucks while pulling FxF sets for at least a year before eventually rebranding.Last edited: Mar 22, 2025
road_runner, Cardfan89 and Speedy356 Thank this. -
I've started seeing fedex doubles pulled by white volvos with the piece of printer paper on taped to the door.
Almost always ground but I think I've seen some freight. The local fedex yard(yards?) have job postings for linehaul but it's always a contractor name for the business. Pay is about the lowest cpm I've seen for line. Not sure if it is ground or fedex themselves. Of the line guys I see wrecked out in the winter a good 2/3 are Fedex sets. Fedex is the only company I see running triples regularly in the winter. With predictable results, the drivers also push way harder than most line guys and that's saying something. -
gotta be talking about ground/contractors because Freights truck were slow Dayton, R&L, Saia, TForce, Estes all hammering down past FXF tractorsLumper Humper and jmz Thank this.
