I am a Solo "IC" - Independent Contractor. I run 3000 miles easy every other week, on the "other" or the short week when I do my 34 hour restart I run 2200-2600 miles. I make my DM work for me, not the other way round. I drop early for the possibility to reload early (50-50 chance). All Newbies listen up!! CR England has a wide range of drivers ie,. Independent Contractors- SOLOS/TEAMS, O/Ops, Company Drivers- only teams right now I believe, Dedicated runs- These are only for experienced drivers approved over time to run these routes, there are a long waiting list to be a dedicated. Some of the advice on here and everywhere else is based on one or more of these areas. For instance a professional driver with 5 years OTR may think that making $500 bucks a week is not worth his time, but he's basing that off of his personal experience and worth. But for a newbie with no professional driving experience cant compare to the professional drivers expectations. Keep your mind open and have a good plan before you show up to any driving companys training program. I always heard that "you could not make it as a solo driver for England", I run into solo drivers all the time, some with 1 year experience and some with 7 or more years experience, They stay in business because of a solid plan and good work ethic! They never drop loads late or get into demolition derby accidents at Truck Parking Lots!... Do your DD (Due Diligence) research. contact me for any questions on my experience. Good Luck

DeaconScott - It may be that they hadn't had their coffee that morning and were just a little Sierra Lima Oscar Whiskey. I know that I gotta have 2 or five cups. HillbillyTrucker

if you can survive on 100 a week, your doing real good, if you can make 80k a year ur doing even better , and if you find a decent "home" to work for you have it made. all the power to ya my friend, just remember one thing though, the rule always applies that " i was looking for a job when i came here and ill be looking for one when i leave here" that will keep you trucking.

Yet another unabashed recruiter ... :biggrin_25512:

Notice the "I run into drivers ..." comment, or the usual "I talk to drivers ..." ... :biggrin_25518:

In other words they don't drive at all, and have to use "hearsay" - (dubious at best) to sell their program. - notice the "No Answer" to being a "trucker"?

"Make my DM work for me" ... I'd really like to hear some of the conversation between veteran dispatchers and "greenhorns" straight outta' "gear grindn'" school ... trying to explain this concept to them.

    Buyer beware ... :biggrin_25521:

I have to admit the over zealousness of the post tells me recruiting or brand new to the industry. I am not saying some guys won't make it new and going into a lease, but CRE's reputation for their lease practices are enough to bust a exp hand who knows the ropes. The newbies are the ones that usually fall for the "be your own boss O/O at CRE" Most think they are O/O's when they go into this lease.

Remember Newbies, The weary, dreary Old crusties are out there. You will bump into them and they will want to steal your THUNDER. haha. Keep your head up and "plan your work and work your plan". I post for the NewBie! not the Complainers/Haters who lilke to vent on here. I dont even listen to my cb anymore because all they do is fight/complain.... If I would of listen to the Old weary-dreary hopeless drivers I probably wouldnt be here now. If i was a recruiter I would press for referrals and what have you. I think the trucking industry is a brutal and crazy industry! If you happen to be with England or brokering your own loads. I heard a couple of "Flatbedders" at a TA one day and was happy to hear that with all their experience and years driving they had the same issues that I run into, ie. trying to get hometime, 34 hr restart, working your DM and so on. Its all the same. Keep running hard,

Only the strong willed will make it in this Industry! Out of 4,000 applications for the week I joined only 100 were selected (which was my class) out of that hundred there are under 10 left, and every month that number dwindles, some quit in school, some quit after phase one or during, some quit after phase 2, some go home to drive a dump truck, some lease and cant get home or just cant make money (sometimes this entails taking the whole alotted time to deliver a load) in other words they let the industry control them instead of controlling there destiny! I came to the company with the hopes of being a solo company driver, I got the next best thing Solo-Independent contractor. There are no longer any solo company drivers only teams. I prefer solo myself. Good Luck All!!:biggrin_25511:
