What did you learn after your 52nd week of trucking?

 

Floating is easier than double clutching.

 

My trainer at Covenant never mentioned it to me. I was a trainer at Covenant for 2.5 years, and I never mentioned it to my students either because I did not know about it. I guess fate wanted me to continue that Covenant tradition of not informing students that one should never back up a tractor-trailer on a city street without a spotter standing outside the truck watching your blind spot.

I have had the police come out and spot for me when I had to back out into a public street because I had a low bridge in front of me or I had to alleydock into the public street probably 15 times in my career. I don't look at these approximately 15 times that I backed into the public street with the police blocking traffic for me and watching my blind spot as a mistake because the police officer would tell me to stop if a car or motorcycle was in my blind spot behind the trailer.
