Well last week I passed my permit tests with flying colors. My first day drving was difinately a challenge, but by the end of th day, I got the concept. Went through all the gears, and for the most part, got upshifting and downshifting pretty good. Roadmaster has been awesome so far.But with the 4 week program, there isn't much time to take care of other affairs. They are keeping us busy. I gotta say, I cant wait to get working for a good company and start a new lifestyle. This forum has really helped to motivate me. However, I am still getting butterflies whenever im up to drive. Which is my only downfall.(so far) Any advice(other than practice) that may help calm my nearves a bit?

Self confidence will improve slowly. You're in school, right? So, you're there to learn. Mistakes will be made. I would hang around school as much as you can beyond what is required of you. Give it your all.
Torque2Haul and stevenater Thank this. -
Don't worry buddy, soon that truck will be like a large extension of yourself.stevenater Thanks this. -
Take all the driving time given to you at roadmaster, their training in my opinion is very lacking, I attended in 03, and thank god had a knack for what I was doing, or else I'm sure I would have struggled as bad if not worse than the rest of the class. Just pay attention, and sorry to break it to you but roadmaster doesn't really give much insight into what you have ahead of you. Not being negative, just trying to let you know to take it all in the best you can because you'll still have a ton to learn after graduation.
stevenater Thanks this. -
Yeah, today we went out in a truck and everybody got their drive except me. The winds picked up, but they could have atleast let me bring the truck back in to work on my downshifting. Im doing well so far, and I love being behind the wheel, sometimes the butterflies kick in though, thats all. Yeah I don't expect to leave a pro driver, but I will demand attention the days ahead, and demand drive time. I seem to be picking things up a lttle bit ahead of the others in my class. I know I'm only on my third day,but I'd like to think I have a knack as well, and a huge desire helps.I appreciate the honesty. And I have a huge newfound respect for drivers. I thought It would be a little different, but I found it to be 100% different.

All I can say is good luck, and hope you dont get people cutting in on you're drive time. I have good days and bad days. Today was split. The day started out kinda bad. Our truck broke down so we had to drive a crap truck wth a crap tranny. I was last to drive, everybody had a really hard time driving it, and Its was our first day in city traffic and a steep downgrade, and had dot on our #####. But I owned that truck! so it made me feel pretty good. I have alot of complaints about roadmaster, but I'm doing my best focus on the positive. Good luck!

Which Roadmaster school are you attending?

LOL, ain't that the truth and a stick of gum.
Steven, once you get with a company and get in a truck you'll get used to it within a week or two. Only took me a few day's and I was completely comfortable. Just keep in mind no truck is going to drive the same and between the first truck you have driven I'm sure you will be in a couple more before you get your own so you will have to get used to the difference of how each truck drives. Pretty much like each person has their own personalitystevenater Thanks this. -
Im at the Salt Lake City Utah location. Thanks Gramma and Skunk. Overall I'm having loads of fun so far on the road, jus a bit frusturated of the low amount of bcking time I get, I have talked to the instructors, and all they is I can stay longer if I dont feel comfortable, I'm a get it done kinda guy, not a oh ill just take my swwet little time kinda guy. I guess a tad more patience would help eh?
