Does no oil on dipstick mean no oil in engine?

You do realize they are being sarcastic. To properly answer your question, no, the motor is not out of oil. Engines typically take about 10-11 gallons and the stick will only show about 3 gallons. So if nothing on the stick, it should still have enough oil to run, but the bigger issue is, why is it using so much oil? It's possible a wrong stick, but I doubt it. How often do you check the oil? If the oil level is below the dipstick just tap on the oil pan with a hammer to figure out the real level.
They make those dipsticks short so that the oil companies can make more profits

The CDL exam should have this on the practical test.
I had a few applicants who could not figure out where the dipstick was, a bunch who could not read it and even a few who said "Where does this go? I can't remember where I took it out"FullMetalJacket, JB7, Concorde and 2 others Thank this. -
Don’t forget to check the blinker fluid aswell very important.
