Look at it this way:
At an average build time of 25-30 hours it breaks down to about $25-28 per hour of build time. Add in an hour of enjoyment per week after that for a year and your per hour cost is down to $9.
And that's before you use the pieces to build something new and cool. And then spend 70-100 hours trying to sort the pieces back into their original sets. At that point, Lego is basically paying for your hobby.
