Sleep test advice

If you get a new sleep study done that indicates that you no longer have sleep apnea, that ought to do it.

I don’t know for absolute certain, though, because I still have sleep apnea 11 years later!

 

Pretty much, if it makes you feel any better you are not the only person this has happened to.

The only driver I know that got off the CPAP did so after losing close to 150 lbs and changed his PCP to a person who was also an ME. So it is possible!

 

Yep, my LTL company auto terminates any driver who doesn't do a concentra medical exam. 16" neck = sleep study and of course automatic failure and cpap machine. 30+ BMI = sleep study, auto fail and cpap machine.

We had a guy who was around 6'7" and was lanky but due to his giant frame he had a 16.25" neck. Sleep study, cpap machine. Couldn't sleep with the mask on, became "non-compliant" and got fired. Runs heavy equipment now for 1/2 of LTL pay and had to sell his house to downsize to his reduced income.

 

Reason I left Pepsi, I refused to take the sleep test as I had a current Medical, Left Pepsi over it. I know who in my area require or push it and I will not go to them. The question when for your DOT medical is Have you, and if you have not then you can say no, not the same as having a doctor require it. I will not participate if ther esleep game. When I came to Heartland that was one of my question, do you require sleep testing, they said no, and here I am.

 

Not directly connected to the question ( sleep study) , but 2 things , as far as a company requiring a physical from a certain
Provider , if the company is paying for it and you choose that option , there game there rules- But you can get a physical done at a certified place anytime as long as you pay for it .( Company wants physical renewed , i go to a DOT certified place , pay for it my self , submit paperwork to Safety/ HR and keep one for myself )
2nd as far as going from a year back to a 2 year , as long as a real doctor says your problem is stable or has improved , you Qaulfify for a 2 year , but its up to the person signing it and you showing the examiner the documentation that the issue is stable .
( had a 1 year physical from last year , went to eye doctor to get a document and exam saying it was stable - mines a eye issue -
Did the physical yesterday , showed the eye document and completed the DOT exam , and now back to 2 year) .
Pay your own physical gives you more options than having a company calling the shots with their sponsered provider

 

Been that way for decades , with tickets and physicals and inspections and all the PSP and background checks , it's a wonder that anyone can drive anymore , and the camera thing really is a f- ing mess ( i mean eating a sandwich while driving is considered dangerous / unsafe behavior ?? )

 

Right. They try to pitch the those driver cams as beneficial to the driver but only naive people believe such nonsense.

That footage is used to scapegoat the driver any way they can. The driver has ALWAYS been blamed for anything and everything under the sun. Camera footage just gjves them one more tool to hang him with.

 

It’s been against the rules for CDL drivers to eat while driving for many years, I got pulled over by a Colorado state trooper in 1999 for eating a bagel while driving a bus (I had no passengers). I only got a warning, fortunately.

 

Wow !! Guess eating that apple fritter and drinking coffee while driving today puts me in the ole outlaw class.
