Ouch that is big money. First thing I saw on a 6nz reman was 60k lol. I will do some more looking. I want a nice setup but I also don't want to spend a fortune.

Straight from Cummins.
Long block 19k
Engine recon base 29k
Engine recon top tier 39kDiesel Dave, DUNE-T and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Might do a long block and then 6 new injectors from them. 4-6 days shipped to my house.
I feel like with a good engine hoist I can definitely pull this engine.
Or maybe the base recon engine is worth it. Cause I'm sure that has the oil pump and fill accessory drive.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this. -
Pretty good prices and fast. Engine hoist? Post a pic. Forklift, big 100HP+ tractor, or wrecker are my go to for pulling the engineKruse Family Farms Thanks this.

I don't have one currently. When I was younger we had a huge A frame with a chain hoist in it. We always pulled engines with that. Unfortunately all my equipment is to small to lift this engine. So that is the main hurdle at this point. Other than how heavy it is the engine looks pretty easy to remove.Diesel Dave and Big Road Skateboard Thank this.

I would probably call a local wrecker to come pull it. Then when you have it ready, call em back out to set it.
I usually pull trans with engine. R&R clutch and cross shafts/bell hsg bushings if needed, new bolts with loctite, and torqued.
Then swing it all back in togetherDiesel Dave and Kruse Family Farms Thank this. -
Sounds like the oil cooler failed and possibly cracked open. Oil psi rising before laying down is usually opposite of what happens with normal bottom end failures. Psi drops. Coolant getting into oil passages may have raised the psi. Cummins water pumps make around 15 psi of flow pressure. Then the pumping of coolant where oil should be caused lockup. Block and heads may still be good. Heck crank may be ok if passes magniflux inspection with a little undersize grinding.

Ah in my head I was planning to leave the transmission in place. Clutch is fairly new and the transmission is a reman from some point in time. It all works good. Wasn't planning on messing with it. It is pretty accessible in the truck.

I was also wondering if it could potentially be the oil cooler. It is something I hadn't messed with at all. The coolant and the oil never even got hot. Just weird psi readings and then horrible engine clanking from the coolant being in the oil. I didn't try to start it today. Just left well enough alone. I honestly don't really want to piece meal it back together. I'm willing to spend the bucks at this point to just have known good reman with all Cummins parts. this engine was supposedly rebuilt but I always question that. I even had the paperwork but I just don't trust people I guess. Mechanics, sellers anyone. I will probably steal some parts i I know should still be good and replace them when ones I know aren't great before I return the core.

Another thing to note I would love to do an in frame myself but I really don't have the time or the space for it. I even worry about the long block since so much coolant and potentially metal went through my engine. I don't know that I trust anyone around here to do an in frame either. Plus by the time they do it and with labor that is probably 20k at least. Then I have a pieced together engine for barely cheaper.
