Nope. Don't even have a valid CDL anymore. Stick a big fork in me, Im done!! I am going to hit the road later on this year and go to SoCal and visit my sons there and then up to Sacramento to see my sister. I imagine I will stop at a few truck stops for old times sake. Don't have any around my home now.

Good for you Bumper to know when it's time to hang up the keys. Glad you are on the way to recovery. Visiting your sons and sister is the best thing to do. After I retired I still visit truck stops with my wife just to be there, make small talk and buy drivers a cup of coffee. Hard to totally get the trucks out of our heads.

Got back to the truck Thursday morning about 11am. Stopped off and had breakfast with the wife first. While eating in Cracker Barrel, got a call from my OPS manager. They wanted me to hook a set of doubles at the Port Saint Lucie Hub going back to Savannah. One trailer had returns for a customer, the other had empty bags that are used for envelopes and very small packages. Total weight was 8K. My job was to bring the set to my Hub in Savannah and break them down. I was sure I would be bobtailing back, bit this turned out much better. I don’t get paid bobtailing back to my home hub after hometime, so this worked out to be a full days pay for 370 miles. If anyone is doing the math, it comes out to 1.05 per mile and worked a total of 7 hours.

On the surgery front, I saw my specialist last week. Before any decision is made, I have an appointment in 2 weeks to speak with the radiologist that’s involved with this to discuss if going the radiation route would be a better option. Radiation treatment would be done by the house. The surgery, could be done in 3 places, USC San Diego, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, or The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville that wrote the blueprint for this procedure. I will be going to Jacksonville if it’s decided surgery will be the route. When I say this came out of nowhere, it did. Because of all this, I will need to stay in the hospital for a week, then stay in Jacksonville for a month while I recuperate. So, we will rent an air bnb for the time we are there. Our daughter will stay at our house and take care of that and the 2 pups. Our life as we know it will be a little upside down, but the outcome will be a full recovery which will take the whole summer.

It’s funny what life throws at you, thank god I have the wife that I have. Her hands on work getting everything in place, dealing with insurance, taking care of every detail is unbelievable. My career will officially end the day I get the clearance to go back to work. I have too much life left in me to work after this issue.
