who are these guys that use channel 6?

That's the difference between ham and CB; hams are taught to use the minimal power needed to get the job done. CB's don't use repeaters so they rely on power. Also i believe another reason people run power on CB is because they don't know how to tune an antenna to allow 96% efficiency of their signal, so the amp makes up for the short comings.

 

I almost never use repeaters and work around the world. You don't need high power the fact is with a good antenna 100 watts is more than enough.

 

The difference between men and boys is the size and the price of theyr toys dont you know? But those guys with all the power on the cb can and will drive a person nuts, i always turned mine off when that started especially when that idiot was in las vegas always rambling on with big power and he always said no doubt all the time and ran truck drivers down, i didnt hear him the last time i was thru there maybe someone got to him lol, i hope.

 

I agree wholeheartedly. I do a lot of phone contesting on my 200 watt Yaesu Mark V. I can work the world with 2 antennas and 100 to 200 watts, and have the QSL's to prove.

I couldn't imagine 10,000 watts or even 100,000 watts. You'd be so strong that you'd blow out every receiver in the neighborhood as well as cook a TV dinner at 20 miles Just immagine the RF field in the shack with that much dirty power. Talk about glowing green!!

I've seen 2 such installations here in Kentucky. One was a mobile with 25,000 watts. that's almost nuclear.

 

I'll have look out for them over here, sounds nuts. In 1980-1981 we in the Uk could hear USA cb at night coming over on the skip, most from truck drivers.

6 is a strange and interesting channel. I hear guys here in Southern CA, coming in from all points.
Honolulu, Mississippi, Ohio. Most of it is babble though. Heard a few this mornin shootin it out with the main conversation going on about some drunk who mis-heard something. Kinda funny to hear these guys duke it out actually. It was worth the laugh on the way in today.

Hams by law are not allowed to run over 1500 watts but many many run just as much power as the boys on ch 6 do just so they can bust the pile ups. Which means they want to be heard anytime they key their mike.......just like the boys on ch 6,the only difference is the boys on 6 don't have that all powerful ticket and in a ham operator eyes that makes them less than dog crap!

I have know for a fact that many hard core hams run linear's that are so large that they take up a whole wall in their house and others run amps that will easily do more than the 1500 watt max.But like i say,you don't ever hear hams talking about stuff like that because they follow the letter of the law.....yeah right!

......not trying to start a war but before the ham guys jump into the same old "cbers suck" thing i just thought i would point that out.

 

There are rule and regulation that amateur radio operators are supposed to abide by, just like CB'ers, but there are no laws.An amateur operator can not be arrested for running more than 1500 watts, same for CB'ers using more than their legal limit.If using more than the legal limit breaks an actual law, you could be arrested for breaking that law.
