Hey Gang,
One of my van trailers had an axle hub blow out this past week. Bosses had an independent mechanic come out and take it apart to find the spindles are done for supposedly. They are waiting for an estimate on cost to repair and if it is too much for them to spend they want me and our own mechanic to go out and take the wheels off the axle and secure it up so I can tow the trailer back to our shop. Does anyone have any experience with chaining up axles on a van trailer to transport down the road. Any input is appreciated. It is a STRICK van trailer that is paper spec with additional cross members running a torsion leaf suspension if I worded that properly.
TIA

Easy to do.
I would use a bottle jack to raise the axle. Then secure with a chain or strap to cross members.
If you have air ride trailer, you could bypass the 1 air spring, but it is not necessary.singlescrewshaker, Bean Jr., little cat 500 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Empty? Does trailer dump the bags when you set the trailer brakes? If so, just dump the bags, remove air lines from the bags on the bad axle, hook the lines together with a coupling. Secure the axle tight as possible, and when you push the knob in the good axle should inflate lifting the bad axle up and carry it….

No bags. It's a torsion bar and leaf spring setup.

With springs You may not have to chain it up. Take wheels and tires off of both sides and put them inside the trailer. Springs shouldn't let it hang down very far. Make sure to put the lug nuts back on to bold the brake drum on the good side so it can still be pushed by the shoes and not fall off.
wore out Thanks this.
