ONLY? When I go out, I’m going to take the proceeds and buy a pickup truck and pretend that I’m switching to “hot shot” and just not sell it. To each his own but I would rather have a $100,000 pickup truck sitting in the garage than have $70,000 in the bank and let those crooks take $30,000!

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I’d rather keep 70% and give someone 30% than give someone else 100% to keep from giving someone 30%. Especially on something that goes down in value the longer you own it. If I had that pickup I’d be kicking myself 10 years down the road thinking about what my 70% could’ve turned into versus the 10 year old pickup that’s worth a fraction of the money I paid for it.

You might hold Uncle Sam in higher regard than I do.

I think about my money and I don’t think about taxes all that much. I forget his name but there was a podcast once where the guy said he never really saw his bank account grow until he started paying taxes. If you’re not paying taxes you’re money is going everywhere else and you’re not keeping any of it. Even in a simple high yield savings account, not even putting it into retirement, that $70k would be about $110k in 10 years. Versus giving Ford $100k and having a 10 year old vehicle. And that’s not even figuring any maintenance costs or licensing or insurance costs.

Sort of like people who complain about what the broker makes. If your share is good enough what does the other share matter? And it’s not like I have to cut a check tomorrow for the 28%. I have until Dec 31 to move some money but no matter what it won’t be a depreciating asset like a vehicle.
