Should I mention I was in the army with other then honorable discharge?

@brian991219 probably has the answer to that. I don't know if that will show up on a background check or not. It would for Hazmat endorsement though.
Some 2nd chance companies won't care about that as long as you have a CDL and can pass the road test.

As long as it was not a DD or BCD, then it should be no issue.

 

The US Military has 2 types of discharges: administrative and those that only result from a Court-martial. The worst is the dishonorable is equal to a felony conviction. Then there is the bad conduct discharge, AKA The big chicken dinner. The worst thing about the administrative, other than honorable, is the loss of the GI Bill and VA medical care. The VA has been known to turn away Veterans with just General Discharges.

This is another of those cases where you should look carefully at the wording of the question. If the question asks Did you ever serve in the US Military you should answer honestly. Don't provide answers to questions not asked.

As far as experience goes, unless that experience is semi-experience, it is generally of no use.

 

Yeah, I'll admit, that's a toughie. On one hand, you'd like the military reference, on the other, saying anything could open up a can of worms. I've lived by the mindset, keepa you mouth shut ( grandma with a rolled up newspaper backside across the head), and today with all the BS, it's best not to say anything. If the pot thing comes up, deal with it then. I agree, it's the good discharge that's the appeal for employers, and a shame, I'm sure you're more than qualified, and some companies are loosening the ropes a bit, finally realizing, someone that smoked pot years ago, isn't a monster. I personally want to thank you for your service, a kick in the nads you can't use it, I'd go in as just a regular applicant, and above all, keepa you mouth shut,,. Good luck.

 

I wouldn't say a word about it and I would lie if asked. They're not going to take you either way so roll the dice and see what happens.

 

Yeah, it's a darn shame it's come to that. Here you have a person who was in the military, the highest honor in my book, and can't get a job because of a little pot. I'd tell the industry to cram it with walnuts, and look for a more friendly, employee appreciating job.

 

Wouldn't they see military service when they run the social security number?
