Just be glad you don't have the pre-9/11 requirement for the every 100 mile or 2 HR flag for a tire check on HazMat loads. DOT LEO's love to catch you on that for not keeping your logs up to date.
What is the point of the post trip inspection if you pretrip?

Like @Powder Joints, I also worked for Heartless Express. Back in Jan. 1996, at orientation, they laid out their logging guidelines. Their emphasis was to keep it simple. Show 1 inspection per day, anywhere on the log. More if you liked, but at least 1. Last day was a log book test. We were allowed to work together with another Driver. The other driver and I disagreed on whether or not to note a repaired light on the post trip inspection. He said no, I wasn’t sure and said yes. Well out of 12 in orientation, he was the only person to get 100% correct answers. I was the only person to get only 1 question wrong. No need to communicate anything that’s been resolved. It makes sense. Keep it simple. Less info to possibly be scrutinized.
Walk Among Us and Powder Joints Thank this. -
I’ve run into the logging a defect I got fixed issue as well . My point was it’s impossible to not have 1 defect all year . I make sure I go back in my log and mark issue resolved . They just hate it in the office because it requires them doing the same thing lol

I do the same .. although FYI if ur logging off duty, u can be written up for this during inspection.. it is not legal to log off duty at a shipper/receiver if you are waiting to be loaded/unloaded .. sleeper berth or on duty is the only legal way...Walk Among Us and Rideandrepair Thank this.
