The point of 1099 classification is that you have the tools of the trade. You have the ability to choose who you work for and where you work outside of specific contracts which you negotiate. If you go to a guy and he just hires you and gives you a truck to drive, you are not independent you are a W-2 employee like everybody else which entitles you to specific benefits that are paid for by the employer and the employer will also be responsible for some of your tax burden.
